JW,

is the difference just in terms of the curriculum?

Aurevoir305,

Each concentration requires 3 specific classes and each specialization requires 2 specific classes but I believe the diploma will just say MBA without specifically indicating which concentration/specialization so yes, I think the difference is just in terms of the curriculum.

Regarding the LSU game, I don't smoke but if I did then I probably would've went through an entire pack

Regarding Acct 701, man that's generous. I'll gladly take it though. I think he said with all the extra credit points it equates to a 10% extra credit.

I got my bachelor's degree in Accounting, so to me it makes sense to learn about data analytics, which is really where the industry of public accounting is headed. I'm not saying Finance is similar to Accounting; I've learned a ton in FIN 701, but I feel like this degree will be more worthwhile for me with the Data Analytics specialization.

The only difference I've read about from a curriculum standpoint are the two courses I would've taken that were FIN and now I'm swapping those out for ISDS courses. I did have to officially apply to switch, but other than that, that is the only difference I am aware of.

Just checked mine out. Did anyone else finish with more than 100% in the course? Crazy that he gave so much extra credit but I’m not mad about it! Happy to be finished with it and MKT. Ready to enjoy the week off and get started on ISDS

FIN701 grades should be mostly in, as I took my test with just a couple hours to spare yesterday and my grade showed up.

Good course. I wish Dr. Vines had recorded some regular lectures in addition to his reading guides and zoom sessions, but he obviously cares about teaching and his course isn't on full auto pilot.

Yeah same here. He was very generous with extra credit.

Enjoyed as first course in the program. He was very helpful and responsive to questions.

What compelled you to make the change, and is the difference just in terms of the curriculum?
As others have said, the specialization and concentration changes the electives you need to take. I currently work in the finance department in my position but I'm more on the analytics and reporting side than I am on the hardcore finance.

The team I'm on extracts the data from our transactional systems, cleans the data up, and then loads it into a group of reporting databases. We then build reports on that data with help from the business. I'm leaning toward the data analytics concentration now because I feel like I'm never going to "out finance" the finance people but my data and analytics knowledge is what makes our team unique within the company. So, it seems like further specializing and doubling down in that realm makes more sense. Also, I'm not certain I want to stay in finance for my career. The demands and expectations of each close gets exhausting, and I'm not even in the thick of it every close like some of my more accounting-focused co-workers.

However, I'm still thinking it over. The HCAD 750 class does give me some hesitation. Looks like it was a class exclusively for LSUS's Masters of Health Administration (MHA) and they're just allowing MBA students to take it now. I also noticed that it's cheaper than the other MBA courses. (??)

In regards to FIN 701, my exam 4 grade was posted yesterday but now my score isn't there anymore. He sent an email saying he was still adjusting grades, so maybe that's why it's gone now? He did say in a forum post that he doesn't do a hard curve but instead looks at where grades are clustered to decide what score range is an 'A', 'B', etc.

Glad to see several people are taking ISDS 705 next term. I'll be in it too. I'm hoping it will be a nice cool-down class to finish off the year. Feel like I've been missing time with my wife and kids lately.

It's a really interesting looking concentration. I'd consider switching, but the class schedule for that new isds710 course doesn't fit my completion schedule.

I only have 3 courses left after this coming AP2, so I'm pretty much locked in unless they change up the scheduling again.

Hey SkipDigs!

I’m registered for ISDS 705 this upcoming session. Could you also send me the PDF text for ISDS705? It’ll be greatly appreciated.

@DieDaily Im looking forward to ISDS705 also my wife and kids are glad to hear there are no zoom sessions for that class. I love Zoom and never miss but FIN701 having a 700 zoom time was hard getting anything done with the yard and family after work before class started.

Signa7, you are allowed to use The textbook PDF on your computer at the same time. You just switch between the opened PDF and the exam that's opened in a browser window. The ProctoU proctors have been told by Dr. Lin that this is allowed. It's easy peasy.

I highly recommend the PDF version of The textbook. The search function within the PDF is a necessity.
