And why wouldn't we? What sport brings in the money that Wade was using? What sport delivers loans to the academic department? What sport, besides baseball, is LSU known for? You always, at almost any cost, protect the bread winner.
Taking all of that out, what did Wade do here besides bring in bought recruits? What of significance did he win? Was he really gonna be the guy to bring a title here? He was an idiot that didn't do the buying players thing well at all. He left himself wide open for his firing. His being here was never gonna allow the program to move forward therefore eliminating any chance of the money being "worth it". College athletics are a business, besides football a losing one, so decisions have to be made in order of what's best for business. Firing Wade was the answer. And the correct one.

The goal in recruiting is to gather talented players who are a good fit without getting caught doing anything dirty.
Wade was a lousy recruiter as he was pretty much busted by his 2nd year.

then made the investigation easy by leaving the most obvious paper trail in the history of paper trails.

So, taking all of this in consideration, as someone mentioned early on, NIL has mitigated all of the under the table payments. Regardless of any potential sanctions, Basketball will be somewhat relevant within 2 years.
