When Kelvin Sampson took over at Houston he told his strength and conditioning guy to go visit Alabama and LSU and see what they do… for football.
On Kelvin Sampson’s most recent coach’s show he said that he told his strength coach to not replicate the best basketball programs but to go see what Alabama and LSU are doing for football.

Sampson would have given any strength coach those same marching orders. It’s that culture. His program has been the same each year there, but with progressively better athletes, yet still no highly regarded recruiting classes.

And of course all coaching staffs read the Rant for coaching advice.

Sampson made impermissible phone calls and texted guys when it was a new technology. Most of the violations are no longer violations.

Baylor faced NCAA sanctions under Scott Drew’s watch. Not from the previous guy, but his own (assistant).

It’s not always simple.

Will Wade may have to get back into coaching in a less glamorous way because of the nature of the allegations.

Also, we’re not talking an SEC football opening. Kentucky is the only real “no-brainer leave your current gig” SEC basketball job.
Like the senile groundskeeper introduced to the parents in Bad News Bears Breaking Training just before 12-year olds drove themselves from SoCal to Texas in a custom van.

I guess shelving the program ends any discussion about improving PMAC

This should be where program building begins. If there are sanctions this would be the perfect time.

The more appealing the whole situation is for an athlete, the less you have to pay him. Get a guy to build a culture. Don’t go after the 5 stars right away. You can get guys quickly now. Come out of sanctions and renovations at the same time with a solid foundation then go after the big guys. (They can join your existing culture guys that may be 3 stars but will have experience within the culture.)

WW’s cult of personality lasts only as long as he’s the guy. He walks out the door, poof, it’s gone.

The next guy has to come with smoke and mirrors and make the LSU facilities and school commitment look NBA.

Rubbing a genie lamp and getting another WW (the good not the bad) can’t be the game plan.

Will Wade screwed LSU.

Carpetbagger game didn’t work.

Sheriff got him.

Now he’s packing up his snake oil and he’s gone.
Wade’s attorneys or advisors likely had him convinced that his personal accounts were somehow off limits.

At the time of his last suspension, no language was used to indicate innocence. There was only an applied lack of evidence of guilt.

LSU admin has likely been on edge, knowing that this was coming. It’s just too bad that LSU could not have gone through replacing him and revamping the program through the two COVID-affected years.

LSU is bigger than Will Wade.
There are too many bowl games. Yes, it’s great for schools who look up to 6-6 records, but it’s not entertaining to watch great programs in a transitional year scrape to eek out an obligatory performance.

At least the bowl tie-ins kept it from being a game against Old Dominion or some other program that many didn’t even know played football.
