Please tell me this is a joke.

Assuming serious, you are going need to throw in Penn State, Yale and Harvard as they all are top 10 in wins.

You will also need to include Minnesota, USC and Princeton as they are all Top 10 in number of National Championships won.

ETA - Miami is #78 on the list of all-time wins…just in front of Westminster and just behind Carson-Newman. For a team in your Top 10 all-time program list that’s some good company.

FYI - Miami not on top 10 number of National Championship list either

Miami is not ahead of LSU. They had a great 22 year run from 1983 through 2004.They did nothing before that and have not finished ranked in the Top Ten since 2004. Learn the facts.

All easily. Plus we were hanging around with FSU and Florida as well as some other new blood programs who like us really took it to a new level the past 25 or so years.

We beat Florida in every metric there is. So no you’re wrong. The only thing they really had is was Heismans and we are tied now. Florida ST is a very hard school to compare because they just started playing football. We are also a better all time than Miami as well.

Name 10 above lsu, please.

All time?

Alabama
USC
Ohio State
Michigan
Texas
Notre Dame
Oklahoma
Penn State
Nebraska
Tennessee

This stems from the fact that for a long time, you had 8 "conferences" and one standalone, Notre Dame.
SWC- Texas
Big 8- Oklahoma and Nebraska
Big 10- Ohio State and Michigan
Pac (8, 10, 12)- USC
East independents- Penn State
SEC- Alabama... Tennessee
Notre Dame

Tennessee is the least of these teams, but still second in the SEC.

LSU fits in the next group- LSU, UGA, Fla State, MAYBE Auburn and Fla? Which are still ahead of teams such as Washington, Clemson, etc at the overall historical accomplishments.

Penn State has a ton of program wins but only has two national titles, ‘82 and ‘86. Only one Heisman winner

Tennessee has 6 nattys but only one (1998) in the last 56 years, and no heisman winners

It could be reasonably argued that LSU has surpassed both in the last 20 years

get Nebraska has had a great past. But the past 25 years they have been absolutely horrendous. I don’t know how much longer they can hold on to a top 10 spot.

LSU currently stands 11th all-time in the AP poll, though it’s possible Georgia passes them this year. Neither had a lot of history before 1936, so that’s an accurate reflection of the historical strength of the two programs. It’s very close between the two on a lot metrics.

All that is to say, that you have to find arguments against 1-2 teams ahead of LSU and Georgia for them to be top 10. Many have suggested Penn St. I think that’s a reasonable position to take. They are 9th in the AP poll rankings, but a lot of that comes from being a big fish in a small pond for a very long time in the East. They just weren’t facing the level of competition LSU and Georgia did in the SEC. Combine that with only 2 NCs and somewhat of a decline in recent relevance and I don’t think they are Top 10. If you place LSU and Georgia tied, that’s enough.

You might need to find one more. Tennessee is just ahead of Georgia and LSU. They had a head start on being a great program under Neyland, but they also are in decline. I’m not sure if Georgia and LSU have caught up completely, but it is close. Others have suggested Nebraska for similar reasons to Tennessee. They are clearly not at that level now. I think you could make an argument that they have fallen from the Top 10. If they haven’t, then certainty another 5 years or so of mediocrity would do it.

We should also claim 2011 as two of the selection services had us #1 (A&H was one, can’t remember the other). We beat the #1, #4 and #5 team in the AP poll.
We had more wins than any other P5 team as well as the highest winning percentage. We beat the champions of the Orange,
Sugar, Rose and Cotton Bowls.

Obviously, we were screwed out of winning the BCS title by what has now been exposed as a completely corrupt ESPN led cabal set on controlling college football.
Mouth breathers and boot lickers will downvote, but we’ve seen with 2011, 2014, 2017, 2020 and now this season what a complete farce the idea of a legit system is.

Please.....let's not start with Yale and Princeton. All they had to do was play each other in the 1870's and then some "historian" decided to award them national titles retroactively about 100 years later. I hope you're smarter than that.

This is a pretty accurate list although LSU's right there with Penn St. and Tennessee is the number of appearances in the final AP poll. The Tigers rank #11 in the all-time AP poll.

To me college football is clearly divided into three categories ancient history, modern history (in our lifetime), and recent history (past 20 years). Yale claims 18 national championships. Princeton claims 15. Most of these championships came in the 1800s and all of them were before WW2. Should they be considered top 10 programs because they won a bunch of championships over a hundred years ago?

These blue bloods have a bunch of championships from a time where many years two or three (or four) teams were named champion. Is Minnesota a better program than LSU because they claim 6 championships? Of course not.

So LSU is on the outside looking in if we're talking about all time but they are absolutely a top 10 program in terms of recent history. Over the past two decades they have three national championships in the BCS era with two Heisman winners. How many teams have done better? Not many. LSU can't compare with the history of a Notre Dame but most reasonable people would concede that LSU is a better program right now.
