re: Recruiting in the state of TX…
Posted by bignic26 on 12/4/25 at 9:05 am to TigerDTT97
It's going to be a heavy lift to pull Texas players from here on. So many schools are over there throwing around desperate money. It's going to be a bloodbath. LSU will be able to bring in Texas players if they really want to but it's going to be costly.
Instead of getting into yearly bidding wars with Texas, OU, A&M, Texas Tech, etc., it might make more sense to buy proven players in the portal and focus on HS recruits in the old SEC footprint.
Hopefully the new GM is all he's cracked up to be because roster management is critical. The SEC is going to cannibalize itself while Ohio State bullies the Big 10.

This thing really got out of hand in a hurry. Started the season with playoffs hopes. Cut to Head coach and AD gone by Halloween with the governor of the state inexplicably dismantling the program.
This is surreal.
This is surreal.
In this new NIL age we find ourselves in the jump from Ole Miss to LSU isn't what it once was. The field has been leveled and most of the things that made college football great have been cast aside for money. Tradition, history, and prestige still play a role but only to the extent that LSU can match an offer.
Having said that, LSU is still LSU and Ole Miss is still Ole Miss. The two are not the same. All things being equal it's still a better job than Penn State, Florida, and certainly Ole Miss. LSU still has fertile recruiting grounds with the ability to go national as needed. Saturday night in Death Valley is still one of the brightest stages in sports.
So while it might not be the job it was before NIL, it's still one of the best jobs in the country. The job will pay well but there will be pressure. Not just pressure to win. Pressure to win the whole damn thing. The next HC has to be hungry and fearless.

I think the idea is that if he's been this successful at Ole Miss then just think of what he could do at LSU with more talent and resources. NIL has leveled the playing field though and the jump from Ole Miss to LSU isn't as dramatic as it once was. He has proven he can recruit in the SEC.
The main thing is that he knows how to move the ball and score points in the modern game. For that fact alone I wouldn't mind trying it out.

re: It's time to get smarter about hiring HC's, starting with cheap talent having 90%+ W rates

I like the idea of spending less on the HC and more on players but you usually get what you pay for. I guess you could build a team so talented that it could overcome a HC who wasn't that great. Worked with the Cowboys and Barry Switzer.
re: Scott Woodward is the Problem
Posted by bignic26 on 10/22/25 at 7:58 am to ibleedpurpleandgold.
Obviously the contract is absurd now but that's what it took to get him. The pickings were pretty slim. To pull BK away from Notre Dame was quite the accomplishment. It hasn't worked out but if you swing big you're going to have big misses. Overall Woodward has had a lot of success but for most people football is the only thing that matters.
Maybe BK can pull this thing out of the ditch. Maybe he can draw on his decades of experience and figure out a way to run the football. The O line isn't very good but it wasn't great shakes last year either with NFL talent. I hate the way LSU runs out of the gun. Other teams do it and they make it look so easy. They use misdirection and window dressing, move the ball down the field, and then hit you with play action. LSU's offense looks like a kid playing a video game choosing plays at random.

he plays wr like half the time. if you use him as a tight end you can match him up on guys playing safety or linebacker. you can motion him to detach him from the line and that brings a guy out of the box thats normally run support. Just a lot of ways to use him as a hybrid
Exactly. When you have a weapon like Green you don't want to limit him by putting him outside. Move him around and create mismatches. Force a defense to account for him with a LB or a Safety. If you put him outside then he's going up against Corners who have a better chance of sticking to him.
When it comes to WR/TE hybrids blocking, I'm not worried about it. They aren't in the game to serve pancakes. They're out there to be game changers in the passing game. If you need a blocking TE then put one in.

I see where you're coming from and usually I would agree but this criticism is concern if not outright panic. What I saw Saturday is troubling. I can't remember the last time I saw a LSU O lineman in the backfield that much. Every snap he was being driven back. And this was against Tech. What the hell is going to happen when he faces off against some of these SEC freaks of nature? How does an offense operate with a Center posted up in the backfield moments after the snap?
I hope you're right and he'll be fine but I've seen nothing to indicate that would be the case. I'm not going to try to cope and pump sunshine on this one. This is bad.

Don't be sad that it ended, be happy it happened. There will never be another run like bama had with Saban. Never. Just not going to happen in the era of free agency.
Saban was the goat and all that but one of his greatest super powers was to be able to hoard blue chip players up and down the roster. So instead of an absurd run of having Mark Ingram, Trent Richardson, Eddie Lacy, TJ, Yeldon, Kenyon Drake, and Derrick Henry you'll have one of those guys and the rest are sprinkled around the country. And those WRs, sheesh. What would it cost to have the 2019 WRs now?

This is like the DBU debate. LSU makes something popular and then other teams try to get some shine off of it. I'm just happy to be a fan of a team that other programs want to imitate. Illinois fans probably don't have many of these inane debates.

2011 was a different animal of football. Its one of those you cant explain with stats
Well put. The final scores and stats from that year don't tell the story. When you watched the games it was clear that LSU was operating at a level we rarely see. With an offense going for 40 and a defense regularly holding opponents to single digits, it was total dominance. They didn't seal the deal but still, unreal football team.

This from a senior, three year(?) starter is just awful.
It's pretty bad. I'm not going to trash the guy because I'm sure he gave it his all but damn. It's just hard to believe that that was the best LSU could do. I guess I've been spoiled by decades of elite Secondary play.

Will Blackwell said Miles did not change any of the game plan offensively from what they did in the first game.
Exactly. I guess Les thought if it aint broke don't fix it. Saban was ready. It wouldn't surprise me at all if bama had the signals though. bama cheated in every other possible way imaginable so would anyone be stunned if it came out that a huge part of their dynasty was a signal stealing operation like the Patriots had going?
It wouldn't be some major conspiracy that a lot of people knew about. They could've run an operation like that with just a handful of die hard gumps.

Claim 1908 officially first
Serious question, why on god's green earth hasn't this been done already? Why does LSU leave a perfectly good natty just out there? It's recognized and everything. All these other programs claim a championship if some random dude named Bob said they were the best back in 1902.

When they changed the rule on transfers I knew that was it. They had been getting closer and closer to free agency by allowing more exceptions like Justin Fields leaving UGA to go to Ohio State. Finally they just said to hell with it, yolo free for all transfers. No more restrictions. Want to transfer to a division rival for a boatload of cash? Go right ahead! Want to bounce around and play for 5 teams? It's your journey, do what you feel.
I know the courts basically stripped the NCAA of their power but damn. CFB is a freakshow now.

It was helmet to helmet. I've seen flags thrown for much less. If you're a Texas fan then it was a good call. For just about everyone else, ASU got jobbed. But such is life. All sports want their biggest brands on the biggest stage. Texas staying in the playoffs does more for ratings than ASU.
Let's keep it real, would you rather have ASU vs Ohio State to watch or Texas vs Ohio State? The powers that be have to be elated right now. Texas, Ohio State, Penn State, and either Georgia or Notre Dame will be the final four. No matter what they will have four big brands with rich history and all that stuff that used to make college football so special.
I'm not expecting to see many Cinderella stories in this format.

This is great news! Now for the love of god, rush the QB. That is all. If it happens to be a run then try to blow it up in the backfield. Backside pursuit. Knock down passes at or behind the line of scrimmage. Let the young man live behind the LOS. That's all. No coverage. No reads. Just get in the backfield by any means necessary.
Move him around. If offenses try to run right at him then move him. Bring him from the A gap. Use him like the Cowboys used to use Micah Parsons. Or even better, use him like you used him that one time that he was All SEC.

How pissed would you be right now if you're an Oregon fan? You have this great season and earn the #1 seed and now you have to beat Ohio State again just to advance while lower seeds are playing randos like Boise State and Arizona State. Obviously those aren't guaranteed wins for Penn State and Texas but those teams will gladly take their chances instead of facing off with an Ohio State team that has the talent to beat anybody on a given day.
Maybe they'll look at reseeding in the future. Or maybe they'll rethink conference champions getting automatic byes. I don't care about ASU and Boise State winning their conferences, they had no business being ranked ahead of Texas and Ohio State.

re: Drop it to 8 teams next year
Posted by bignic26 on 12/22/24 at 5:50 am to MasterKnight
The jump from 4 to 12 was just too much. Most years college football somehow managed to have the two best teams playing each other for the championship. Obviously it was never perfect and you would have an odd year here and there like in 2004 where an undefeated SEC champion Auburn was left out in the cold in favor of #2 OU and #1 USC. But they went to a 4 team playoff so a team like Auburn would have an opportunity.
I really liked the four team playoff because typically there are only a few legitimate championship caliber teams. The regular season was massive because 1 loss could make of break your playoff chances. Most years it was clear who the top 4 teams in the country were and they were able to settle it on the field.
In all my years of watching cfb I have never seen a year where there were 12 legitimate championship caliber teams. Even 8 was a stretch but an 8 team playoff made sense. It would eliminate the controversary that popped up here and there. An undefeated Auburn or FSU team makes it in. Now they have overcorrected to absurd 12 teams and instead of eliminating controversary it has created more. They could make it a 16 team playoff and there would still be controversary. There will always be the first team out who felt like they deserved to be in.

Cool story bro. I'm not saying it didn't happen but with no name, or even position, it could be a totally make believe story. "We didn't make the playoffs and the dynasty is over but LSU came sniffing around with a big offer and one of our player loves crimson so much that he told them to kick rocks. We're still kind of a big deal. We're important!"
Whatever gets you through the day I guess. It has to be hard on them as they crashed down back to earth. They had the entire sport rigged in their favor but now they're just another blue blood trying to get by.
