Most defenses have problems against mobile QB’s

The defensive roster has not been top notch during his tenure. Last year's offense was so bad that the defense was gassed as the game wore on.

Daniels did that to everyone's defense in 2023.

As others have said, he plays an aggressive style of D and we seem to lose contain at times.

Baker is solid but he is not elite yet.

His defenses to this point are similar to a pitcher with a 100mph fastball. It works great and is successful, but when you face better hitters, you need to change speeds and have something else to throw.
His defenses are good, and at times overly aggressive with blitzes. Those work great against pocket passers. But mobile qbs can ignite that style of defense if they get past the first wave or if the blitz doesnt get to them in time. Usually the best defenses that stop mobile QBs are ones that rush 4 and play more zone defense. You also need your Defensive ends to stay in their lanes and not overpursue the edge getting too deep behind the qb on their rush. Its very tough to do, and alot of defenses do struggle with that style, but bakers defenses struggle a bit more with it due to his style. Hopefully he adjusts some this season after having to go against this new system all offseason

A lot of people say it's because the offense couldn't hold the ball

I would say we lacked the right linebackers, or pass rushers. We'd get heavy pressure, but if they didn't get an immediate sack, it was off to the races. If we "just" flushed the QB he usually ran wild.

That says to me, you either need to finish the QB off with the rush instead of "just" making him move, or you need that guy who can contain him as he gets past the linemen.

We didn't have linemen who could finish the play off. White dude who came in from Florida was a prime example, he would always be close, but not get the sack. And then, we lacked a Devin White/Patrick Queen guy who'd clean things up.

No one wants to believe it but he lost his qb of the defense when Whit went down

If our defense crumbles and loses games in an embarrassing fashion, simply because one dude went down, we are royally fricked

It’s a numbers game when you are defending the run. If a QB isn’t a threat to run, the defense has a major advantage with an extra man available to stop the run (11v10). If the QB is a threat to run, now it’s 11v11 and one missed tackle by the defender accounting for QB could be detrimental. That’s why so many OC’s want a QB who is a threat to run.

Having lock down corners and strong safety play are essential

I think it’s been said, it mostly a scheme issue because of the pressure Baker tries to generate. Constantly blitzing and playing man behind it, leaves you vulnerable because if you miss in the pressure, the db’s backs are turned and there’s no support players for the qb.
Against Reed this year, he should only rush 3 or 4 and make him throw the ball all the way down the field. He can’t complete 4-5 passes in a series

Name a DC that shuts down Elite “Mobile QBs” not named John Chavis…. If you can put together a list it’s very small….

We also had success against Lamar Jackson. I think that was Aranda.
