Plays too much straight man where we have players turning their back to the QB or he’ll spy out of zone leaving a big hole in the middle of the zone. He’s great at everything else just needs to get that fixed.

I’m hoping that practicing against mobile QBs everyday also helps the defense.

Baker does run an aggressive style defense that strives to create substantial pressure on the QB. The risk in doing that is sometimes you lose containment along the defensive line and a mobile QB can take advantage of that. A lot of it also depends on what kind of talent you have on the defensive line and is that talent suitable for that scheme.

I think good mobile QBs are a problem for every DC.

That's why good offensive coaches recognize the need for a mobile QB. It's a cheat code at this level.

Everyone struggles with mobile quarterbacks, it’s extremely hard to defend

This narrative that Baker struggles with mobile QB’s is bullshite. All coordinators struggle with them.

Sure, but we’ve been especially shitty against Marcel Reed compared to others

That's true. And Milroe absolutely destroyed our D in 2024 in a packed Tiger Stadium in one of the most uncompetitive LSU/Bama games in history. It was shocking. Milroe almost rushed for 200 yards and averaged 15+ ypc. His next best average for a game was 7+ ypc.

Seems like we were one of select teams to not be able to stop Reed or Milroe. Two mediocre QBs.

A terrible Oklahoma team beat the same Bama team that demolished us in 2024 and Milroe didn’t run around crazy

Getting gashed up the middle is the most aggravating thing about Bakers defense.

Chavis had his DL stop to help containment. We had no containment against any running qb’s. Poor game plan or philosophy or personnel. Whatever it was he better figure it out this year. Hopefully the other part of the staff can help him out which seems ridiculous being he’s one of highest paid DC’s in the country.

every defense struggles with mobile qb's, that's why nearly every good team has one. When we had Jaden, I dont think it really mattered who the defensive coordinator he went against was.

Oklahoma was quite a bit better than us on defense in 2024, they were ranked #7 FEI wise and we were #25.

Obviously it's easier to get hits on a statue in the pocket vs a mobile QB. It's an issue for all defenses. Why do you think DCs always say we need to keep whatever QB in the pocket and not let him break outside.

In 2024 we incinerated that OU defense.

There are 2 games that show both what Baker's scheme WANTS to do, and the weaknesses in that scheme (at least with the personnel we had):

2024 A&M, 2025 Ole Miss.
That A&M game we were thoroughly dominating them and on the way to an epic blowout, then they stuck in their backup QB in desperation, and we had zero answer for his mobility. I've never seen a game flip so heavily from one side to another like that.

The Ole Miss game last year, it seemed like we'd sack them for 10 yd losses constantly, only to turn around and give them big gainers the next play.

I'm not sure if we lacked the talent (line to get home, linebackers to clean up the scramble), or if he just overdid it and they figured it out. I'm hoping we progress some there.
