Mobile QBs are important for a modern offense because everyone has trouble defending them...that is why they are known as mobile QBs

I haven't seen this mentioned yet, but one of the most important things in stopping a mobile QB is a strong D-line
This x 1000!!! Did you see how Miami handled Texas A&M last year? They sent 4 great rushers and played zone behind it. As long as the D line does its job, the QB has nowhere to go and has to turn into a pocket passer. The problem LSU has had is that they have had to blitz to get pressure and therefore play a lot of man behind it. This is a recipe for disaster against a mobile QB.

Ask yourself if all the DC's Jayden Daniels faced had issues with a mobile qb.......

No one wants to believe it but he lost his qb of the defense when Whit went down.

Whit said it himself on his interview with TM7. Just about all of the busted big plays they gave up last year were just miscommunication.

You need dudes on defense, especially at the first two levels. Last year, we had guys, not dudes.

Against Reed this year, he should only rush 3 or 4 and make him throw the ball all the way down the field.

What Miami did against Reed and to a little lesser extent Chambliss needs to be studied by our defense all off-season.

It’s kryptonite for any defense.

This. If you’re the least bit undisciplined, a mobile qb will kill you. Sometimes you can be the most disciplined and an absolute freak will still simply beat you (Cam, Vince Young, Tebow)

2 first round picks on the D-Line that allows you to drop 7 or 8 really helps.

A mobile QB makes it 11 vs 11 and scheme then can create space for QB to run.

A non mobile QB is 10 vs 11 and scheme matters less b/c QB ain’t typically a threat to run.

Huge advantage shift to O and why football will continue to evolve to no more Peyton Mannings, higher scoring games and DC carousels.

I never heard anyone specifically discuss the strategy but even going back to Chavis LSU seemed to use a strategy to sucker or flush the QB into tacklers. For example, blitz from QB left, seal the middle, and flush runner into DE/OLB on opposite side.

Chavis also had elite talent at every level of the defense.

Something we have severely lacked the last several years.

This is what elite teams have every year. Ohio st, Georgia, Alabama, Texas all have elite defensive line talent. LSU had elite talent during our 2000s run. We really haven't had that talent consistently since then.

We did a good job against Sellers, Klubnik, and Mateer this past year. I think the issue in the games you mentioned was just that our personnel wasn't good enough and we got straight up pushed around in those games against A&M and Bama 2024 and A&M 2025.

This is one of several reason imo.
Whit out created big problems. With mobile qb's that can run and throw, discipline in lanes in paramount. Whit out caused a lot of missed assignments from lesser experienced players.
I also think that a lot of containment was put on the shoulders of Perkins because of his demonstrated skills his freshman year.
However, Perkins stopped being that player. He either developed the worst field vision I have ever seen from a talented defender or he just didn't seem to be willing to put forth the effort needed. He seemed to take himself out of plays more often than not. Tremendous football measureables but lack of field vision or understanding what was happening before him, just left him virtually useless, even a detriment to the success of the defense because so much was directed at him to cover.
It is hard to understand why he just got worse and worse every year, so much so that a player that was supposed to be our very best turned out to be our very worst, or close to it as far as making plays he was counted on to make. It could be a coaching problem, but if it is, I think we will see something that resembles Perkins plan again this year from someone that we are thinking will be very good for us. Hope we don't ever see that again at LSU as we have seen too many 5 star hopefuls fall flat in recent years.

Most defenses do if the edge guys aren't good at containment.

Reed & Pavia

those dudes cooked a lot of defenses.

As other have pointed out, our offense's ineptitude kept D on the field way too much, and they often looked winded.

Key injuries hurt, too.

I think D makes a huge leap this year based on talent, third year in the system, and returning starters.

In pretty sure a lot of defenses and DC’s struggle with mobile QBs.
