It’s been a major problem for him, and I don’t know why he hasn’t been able to fix it.

I think part of it is having elite defensive line play, which we haven’t had for quite some time, but that also falls on him to try and change scheme/mix up personnel.

The offense certainly didn’t do him any favors, but we were giving up TDs on the first and second drives of games and have made average players like Reed and Milroe look like Heisman contenders.

Reed only had two games of 70 yards rushing or more last year and one of them was against us.

In games against notable rushing QBs, (24 A&M and Bama, 25 Ole Miss, Vandy and A&M):

44 possessions
24 TDs
3 FGs
61% scoring percentage
In 4 of the 5 games, teams scored a TD on their first two possessions of the game (including when Reed entered the game in the 3rd quarter against A&M in 24).

Pretty sure Lane can help him with that, and going against a mobile qb every day in practice will help with that also

Because his defenses rely on blitzing to get pressure. He is also bad on 3rd and long (7+ yards) b/c we rush four drop 7 with 3 or 4 of them 20 yards an off the ball. The four we rush rarely get pressure and the QB eventually finds a guy open for 10-12 yards.

The point of a mobile quarterback is to make the other team's defensive coordinator struggle with containing them.

The year before Pavia had one of his worst games of the season against Baker's defense

This is a great observation. Is there anything more deflating than your defense giving up a first down on 3rd and long?

I’m hoping with some of the new additions on the defensive line that this will be a huge help.

We left running lanes for the QB to exploit plus man coverage is bad vs running QB’s

Lane had one of the best defensive teachers in his father.Im sure LK,a football junkie, picked his fathers brain throughout all his life about every phase of Deffense.Thats probably why he is so good at play calling. While knowledge is great ,you still need great players to execute your plays.LSUhasnt had the overall great players lately to be very stout in all phases of the defense.Lets see if the portal has brought us those kind of tigers.

I’d completely forgotten that Monte is Lane’s dad.

Scheme, players being over aggressive and undisciplined and letting the QB escape the pocket. Remember Johnny football gave the great Nick Saban fits because it's very difficult to plan for the unknown of a broken play with a mobile QB. It drove Saban nuts because it was the type of play you could not perfectly plan and prepare for in practice. It was out of his control. Best thing is to rush them but hold contain and do a mush rush if you have to like the chief did to keep the QB in the pocket. Then at times with good coverage pocket will collapse and force sack. if not then you at least make them beat you consistently with their arms which you have more control over with your coverage schemes.
