LSU was 5-5 last season. UCLA destroyed Hawaii and LSU hasn't played. It's pretty simple to see why this game could be close.

LSU is the more talented team, but we really don't know what we will get until Saturday.

I dont know, Ask the experts in Vegas... LSU -3

Vegas is right more than wrong. I hope they have underestimated the Tigers in this one.

They are just saying 3 points to attract more viewers. It is a bonus for us too, because after we blow them out of the water by 20+ points, we will get a big bump in the rankings for exceeding expectations.

This is a win-win-win. Win for TV station, win for the rankings, and a win for me, since I bet on LSU.

Can’t tell about opening day.

I think a two score victory by the Tigers appears likely.

So many uneducated fans

So many fans that don't remember Wisconsin x2, Troy, 5-5, about 75% of our games under Les Miles where we played down to competition, brand new coaches, players that went 5-5 last year, QB with 3 starts, the list goes on. There are more reasons why this game will be close than a blowout for LSU.

Damn dude, you ok? I know the hurricane was rough on everyone but with a name like Hurricane Mike one would assume Ida wouldn’t displace your mental and emotional baseline to this negative of a state.

There are 1-800 lines that can help if you need to reach out to someone.

The same reason that they pump up every LSU Alabama game when more often than not, all signs point to a Bama victory….

TV ratings. It’s literally their job. They get paid to advertise games and get people to watch.

How on earth could anyone think UCLA will be a close game? They don't have the advantage in one position group and you could argue non of their starting 22 could start at LSU

The speed difference is too much and we will have the crowd advantage.

They arguably have the position group advantage at RB, TE, OL, and QB. Show me how I am wrong.

Very few SEC teams go out west and beat Pac-12 teams in recent years. I believe the only ones to do it this century are LSU against the Arizona schools and Georgia at ASU. And the ASU games were very close.

Humps went out there and beat USC eleventyhundred to 6 just a couple seasons ago

We were supposed to beat Wisconsin and we were supposed to beat Miss State. It is very likely this UCLA team is better than both of those teams. We don't know yet. And we don't know what we really have until we see it. The facts are we have two new Coordinators. New Dline coach, new oline coach, a young quarterback and young linebackers. UCLA returns experience and Chip Kelly is a good coach. He was able to win his first game easily without showing anything but plain vanilla offense so there is a lot for LSU to plan for.

I think we win this game, by how much, I don't know. But I don't see a blow out. We have the talent for sure. And I actually think being sequestered in Houston with just complete focus without the distractions in Baton Rouge this week is going to be a good thing.

I hope you are right. Would love to see our Tigers blow out the Bruins but there are many factors to consider that could make this a very close game as already mentioned:

1. UCLA already played 1 game and WON convincingly and w no major injuries. They will be confident.
2. UCLA playing at home (worth at leas a few points)
3. LSU being displaced all week in Houston
4. LSU playing 1st game of season
5. UCLA returning most of starters from 2020

Give the Bruins credit. They don't seem "over confident" and are saying the right things at least to media. LSU has their attention and they have stated this will be their toughest game of the season. They will be ready.

Hopefully LSU will play lights out in their opener. I expect both teams to play well and if the refs don't get in the way our Tigers should prevail. Let the games begin!

under Les Miles

The Wisconsin games were with some of the most undisciplined LSU teams of the past 2 decades, and we still went 1-1. In between those games, we had Brandon Harris not knowing what to do against a less than stellar Syracuse DLine and tossing the ball back to our Heisman trophy candidate running back praying for the play not to turn into a disaster.

I think the opposite. If we finished last year like we started, I'd agree with you completely. But it was an almost entirely new starting lineup, a big leadership injury early, and a bunch of guys not realizing that they needed to find an identity. We started to find that identity toward the end of the year, and I think we come out and beat UCLA by 10-15 points. Not a blowout, but I think we will have it in hand by the 4th.

But if the question is it more likely to be a single score game or a complete trouncing, I'll go with the latter. The talent disparity is too wide.
