Why are reporters trying to pump this up as a close game?

I've heard 4-5 guys over the past week on national and local radio saying how this COULD be a close game and to keep an eye on UCLA.

How on earth could anyone think UCLA will be a close game? They don't have the advantage in one position group and you could argue non of their starting 22 could start at LSU

The speed difference is too much and we will have the crowd advantage.

52-13 LSU

After the debacle of a season last year, it’s fair for LSU to be questioned.
Take into consideration UCLA has 20 starters and a seasoned O line, this could be a close game for a half or more. Big test for the linebackers and the Corp of RBs, time to run the ball again!
Comparing rosters? I agree there’s no comparison

Their defense looked decent but Hawaii’s qb was God awful, like really bad. UCLA Qb looked good running around, but if under pressure he will really struggle. I think our defense will crush them and we will pull away in the 2nd half

Views/sales/revenue

If the game is going to be on prime time, you’re not really going to hear how much it’s going to suck and be a blowout

Thank you. Some were acting like I was crazy for saying a win by less than 10 points would be disappointing.

Because the betting line dropped about 14 pts after UCLA played Hawaii

I mean Vegas has it as a 3pt game. If you're that confident then take out a 2nd mortgage on the good guys.

And this is coming from someone who just put a couple days paycheck on the Tigers. But 52-13? Sheesh.

Lol wut? Try a point. From 4 to 3.5 after the game, then another .5 today (probably hurricane related)

Very few SEC teams go out west and beat Pac-12 teams in recent years. I believe the only ones to do it this century are LSU against the Arizona schools and Georgia at ASU. And the ASU games were very close.

We also went up and spanked UW in 2009. Hard to believe its already been 12 years.

But LSU hasn't lost to a PacXX team since 1979.. sorry if we are a little confident.

We were awful last year. They have 20 starters back. It’s in California. People don’t respect our coach because of things he has said and done since early 2020. It’s a 4 point spread. Until we prove we are better than last year people won’t respect us.

UCLA's largest margin of the defeat last year was 6 points, and they return most of their starters.

We're coming off a 5-5 season, and we have a new OC and new DC.

That's how.

Good catch, although not sure I'd call an 8 point win over a team that went 0-12 the year before a 'spanking'. Point is, even though LSU has won, it's been relatively close except for that 2 win Arizona team.

Well, the local hack on the radio said the line opened at 17. I took his word for it

You’re setting yourself up for disappointment. I seriously doubt we win by 5 scores.

Let’s see, maybe because LSU went 5-5 last year, is replacing both coordinators and has been relocated sooner than expected due to a hurricane… let’s not forget yes we finished strong with two wins but they both could have easily been losses putting us at 3-7
