Whatever the outcome, I don't think LSU let's themselves get into a situation like this again, by outlining a clear policy on jersey numbers worn by Heisman winners.
Why would LSU change anything? It has worked fine until last week and if CFB continues and LSU continues to succeed it will only get less likely that anyone gets their number "retired". It is simple math. And it has worked just fine until last week.

Give out #9 to somebody next year and just move on from retiring numbers like the policy states. This half retired thing is just dumb. Just put all numbers in circulation. Hell, I'd put #20 back in as well, just honor the players but keep the numbers on the field.

I don't think he's a POS - to the contrary I've always liked him - but he's seriously misguided and being poorly advised in this circumstance, and would be well served by extricating himself asap.

I would imagine that LSU's legal representation will respond if they deem it necessary.

Which we have done, I’m fine with us actually complying with his wishes and removing him from videos, it’s not like we lose any really cool wins other than bama 22. We have other Heisman winners and plenty of other players in the league

I thought the Heisman trust presents two trophies, one for the player and one for the university. So, he's not winning this either. Another extremely bad look antagonizing the entire fanbase.

They will probably respond to the C&D letter if they haven't already, but there's no need for LSU to do anything publicly.
As for JD, it's clear to me that his mother is pulling the strings here, and he needs to grow some balls and tell her to let him be his own man. Apparently he can't even get a girlfriend without her approval. Next thing you know she'll be telling him how to parent his kids. Cut the cord dude. I think he's a good guy at heart, but he's one of these people that just can't tell his parents no.
