Re: Terrible Usage & Lack of Talent
__________________________________________________

I don't always agree with Lester, but in my opinion and understanding of the game, I kinda agree here at face value. We knew Perkins wasn't going to be an everyday DE (If you did, you don't know ball - no disrespect). I think the year lost due to injury caused slower development at more traditional LB spots. He couldn't truly flourish last year, because we didn't have the talent and depth to allow him to...but to say that he was bad last year etc. isn't really true. He played the STAR really well, given how much he was in coverage. He was not a liability.

I think we're going to see him play a Jabrill Peppers type role in the NFL where he's going to move from hybrid safety to weak side LB, and you'll see his range on display.
You need dudes on defense, especially at the first two levels. Last year, we had guys, not dudes.
Pirate: Fair.

But there in lies the issue, if you are operating at the capacity that you were taught, and i'm operating at the capacity that I was taught...we both aren't wrong in our approach. It's just different than the other one. Character for you is honoring your commitment, when character for me would be pushing for the contract to be honored from the other side in the way that was sold to me when coach sat in my house and said it would be. Nothing wrong with either view point.
I want to push back on that Pirate. Nothing that is happening that's any different from when we were kids. It's just dressed differently.

And again, they are just a byproduct of the system - 7on7 tournaments that highlight personalities, being televised. Multiple recruiting sites jockeying for best in class rating services, podcasters wanting to moonlight as credible new sources always looking for the scoop. Maybe there are some bad actors out there, but I'm sure the overwhelming majority of people are trying to do this thing correctly with the cards they've been dealt.

We talk from a place of not knowing fully what happens during recruiting...the recruiting "game" has caused a lot of what we dislike with kids selecting schools...but we rarely talk about how many of these schools don't allow kids to commit, schools rescind offers, schools lose their coaches two days before work outs, etc.

re: The transfer portal is cool and all.

Sensible - athletes are absolutely worth the 6 figure, and some cases 7 figure deals that they are getting. Place a minimum 10k and max 1M on the guys and keep it moving.

You can't tell me that an entity who showcases talent, and earns xxxMillions, can't afford to hash out such a small portion of that to the talent. Don't get me started on the businesses that also get to get paid from college athletics that aren't directly tied into the school budgets.
The portal isn't killing the sports. It's the system being exposed, that's killing the sports. The NCAA governs poorly, coaches being poached, conferences being whores to TV deals, etc. The transfer portal may be a symptom, but it's not the diagnosable sickness.
The track program needs money. The coaches are still good coaches, we just need money to compete with schools like Arkansas who don't spend as deep as we do in football, and who have built in donors like Tysons etc.

Comment made about jumps/sprints/etc - well, need the football and basketball coaches in Louisiana to stop lying to their mediocre, talented kids, and allow them to flourish in track and field. This is probably the biggest antithesis to being dominant like we used to be, more than anything else.

We need money, we need the talented kids to choose track and not 7on7 football with pipe dreams about being noticed and getting scholarships.

WE ALSO JUST CAME OFF OF A REALLY GOOD OUTDOOR SEASON. Our system works, clearly.
Would love to get "something different" from the basketball team. We don't need similar tag lines. Be original.
LMAO - sometimes these jokes are funny.

what is TDV 2?
A lot of recency bias.

Boutte was good, but we only got 1 year of him being a standout. He needs to drop. I'm taking Aaron Anderson off the list, and adding someone like Demetrius Byrd. DJ Chark is way too high, let's make him take that spot at 20.

Terrace was a great tiger. I wish we could have seen more of him. His spot seems okay if we are basing it off a few "what ifs".

Let's trade Early and Devery for Boutte and Marshall.

How could I forget about Buster Davis. I'm taking Travin Dural off the list, and adding Buster.

I just want us to call our coaches by their real names, and not some abbreviated version of it.

Maybe her time in the W has run its course. She's still good enough to have a great Euro career, if basketball is her choice. If not, I'm sure she can get paid with modeling or advertisements.

I'd love it if we are able to get Addai, St. Junious, and LaFell Jr.

re: Pitching for next season

Do any of you mind explaining to me why we are bad at pitching but lead the league in strikeouts. Is it as simple as boom or bust?
LSU is geographically located in a nice hotbed of Softball. If we aren't good in softball, that is a problem. If we're not above average in softball, that is a problem. I think that Beth has been teetering on above average, with a sprinkle of Elite every so often.

I like her. Keep it going.
Re: unless due to injury payment should be on playing in the games

Nicholastiger, I understand why you'd want to tie payment to performance, and maybe you can place a % on things like that. But NIL and Rev Sharing are much more than the time that is spent playing the game. Like, Revenue is driven by ticket sales, which in large part happen out of season...why shouldn't an athlete (star) be able to access their piece of that pie, that they ultimately drove demand for?

Definitely a slippery slope with the inner workings. Timing makes everything precedent.
I have a sneaky suspicion that we look like Illinois next year. Foreign born pro guys. And sprinkle in a few lanky positionless players.
Agreed. He started to string together a few good plays towards the end of the season. He's one of our most physically gifted players on the team...I hope he takes this summer even more serious and works on his game.

Rooting for Weston Davis this fall!
