Can’t believe the OP is trying to blame Watkins for this. Talk about a reach.

People here just don’t like Watkins so they are piling on. It will make no difference in his playing time but it will increase the negativity/dislike toward him for whatever that is worth, at least on this website. The hate is unwarranted IMO. His worst game is 4 rec, 31 yds

He is a young player. We should be grateful he chose BR over Oxford

Perhaps but there was another WR wide open over the middle. Just a pass that Sam missed on.

no if Sam wouldve thrown it deep it would have been a TD
it was on the QB

On that play, I immediately highlighted that our WR could have made it more challenging for the DB. Clearly he wasn’t close enough to bat the ball down… but I felt like he could have challenged and as a result could have fell on the DB. Clearly it was a bad throw.

From that still shot, definitely a bad read by Leavitt. He needs to go over the safety since his momentum is coming forward. Watkins was expecting it deep. Or Sam should have hit Tre Brown who is running free in the middle.

They had the completion whether he came under or went deep. It just so happened they both decided at the same time, and had the opposite thing in mind.

That ball is not completed if Watkins come underneath unless the safety falls down. In no world should Sam have thrown the ball that he did. If you want to take a shot over the safety, fine, but you can't throw that ball in front of him.

Even Lane said it was a horrible decision and Sam can’t throw that ball. Even if the wr and qb weren’t on the same page the head coach appeared to place blame on the qb if that tells you anything.

I think Sam wanted Waktins to break back toward the ball and threw it short on purpose. That is actually what WRs are taught to do.

This. Sam said it after the game. Winnie raised his hand and sam thought that meant he was coming back to the ball.

people are freaking out about this play WAY too much. If sam doesn’t have those 3 stupid int’s vs la tech this whole narrative america LOVES to talk about is completely moot.

He has had 4 bad throws all yeah, the rest of the interceptions were unlucky.

Yeah, technically it is. On scramble drill when the QB is running out of the pocket to the sideline the WR is supposed to break his route back to the QB and help make a positive play. It's hard tl throw deep shots while running. If Sam was able to set his feet it was a touchdown to watkins, but he didnt have tim to set his feet.

Good point Lester. (I just had to type that.)

It was a bam bam timing thing. When Watkins raised his hand, he also broke to go deep. Sam was on the run, and could not stop and set to throw. If Watkins maintains his route under the db, it’s a completion.

Because in the end he is the one that threw it.

Sam literally said after the game that he didn't see the DB and just saw the WR raise his hand

That doesn’t change the fact that he was throwing to the path that Watkins was on, BEFORE he broke deep.

He raised his hand to throw him the ball THEN, not 2 seconds later after the DB had already closed the gap between them.

It was a bad throw no matter where Watkins would have ended up. There are times Sam just goes brain dead doing things. We've seen it all year. This was probably his luckiest game yet. Even the high ball that was tipped by our receiver just sailed high and out of reach of everyone. We're so used to it just magically finding someone that I honestly was surprised.

Sam will be fine.
