re: Watkins on the interception that wasn't

I looked at it and thought that Watkins saw he had the DB underneath and the backside was wide open. Had Sam saw that and added 10-15yds on that throw and it's a TD or a deep completion on the sideline.

Hell no. The DB was watching it longer that Winnie. Now watkins was behind the safety and if Leavitt had thrown it down the numbers instead of the boundary it might have been a big play for us.

Bro what?
Watkins running full speed has all the room & angle to easily complete that pass. I don’t think it’s on Watkins but Leavitt clearly expected him to come back to the ball, which would have been an easy completion

The DB is still 7 yards closer to where the ball ultimately ends up than Watkins is in those stills. He "intercepts" the ball on the 45 yard line about a yard or 2 outside the numbers. Flat footed or not, he's significantly closer to where the pass ends up than Watkins is. At best, it ends up a PBU. At worst, it's picked.

This view makes it not AS BAD as it looked in person. I Could see where he could be looking at Watkins only and not see that db standing in that random arse spot on the field.

The DB is dead to rights with either route path had they been on the same page

Who threw it? Blame the person who threw the meatball sub with extra-sauce.

I'm sure Watkins has been given a lot of rope following Kiffin from Ole Miss and with lack of depth at the WR position, but almost every intangible is lacking there in addition to the tangibles.
Hands, route running, effort, blocking, alignment, etc.
The Hawaii transfer along with the return of Green has and will affect his touches, IMO
As far as this one play, sure receivers are taught to come back to a QB scrambling out of the pocket, but still a stretch to place the blame on Watkins here.

I don’t mind him sniffing the big play but he has to break deep earlier to show his intention. Or at least put his hand up to signal Leavitt

Sam thought he was going to keep going towards the sideline and Winnie cut deep behind the DB.
Miscommunication but also a bad throw due to risk.

people are freaking out about this play WAY too much. If sam doesn’t have those 3 stupid int’s vs la tech this whole narrative america LOVES to talk about is completely moot.
It often comes down to lack of knowledge of the game. Most fans see an interception and blame the QB. Just as often the QB is throwing to a spot and the receiver makes the wrong read or doesn't follow a set procedure.

SIAP, but...

That pass was awful. He did not get enough arm on the throw. Winnie would have to break and come back and run in front of the DB to catch that. He couldn't just "come back to the QB".

Why TF does everyone harp on one bad throw the SEC player of the week made that was not even an int.
It blows my mind the hate or the analysis of every single thing this LSU and CLK coached team does.
For all the haters go back and watch every winning QBs play, there are shty plays every game.
But when Sam L goes for 32completions 72% 387yds 3 TDs
54yds 1TD- people or media or haters
Nick pick over 1 throw in the game that didn’t mean a fkg iota in the game.

Watkins raised his hand and I think he wanted it deep. Sam never saw that db. Bad decision
This. This was mentioned after the game. He was definitely looking to break deep and beat his man while he was looking at Sam.
If he could throw it deeper, just put it down the sideline where either Watkins has a shot or it’s a throw-away. If he couldn’t throw it deep, just put it in the bench and go to the next play. What he chose was a pretty terrible decision.

I'm not sure why it matters on this point, but yes, yes I do.
