SIAP, but...
Watching the Auburn game again, and on that "horrible" throw, did anyone else think that if Watkins had come straight across the field instead of drifting away (behind the db), the pass wouldn't been on the money?

Watkins raised his hand and I think he wanted it deep. Sam never saw that db. Bad decision

No. SL is good for 1 bad pass every game and 99.9% of the time it's an INT for some reason. It's actually infuriating and annoying. I'd say he's unlucky at times too. Defenses must know SL isn't going to give them many opportunities for they almost always INT it. They make him pay for that 1 bad throw every game. He was lucky this one wasn't INT.

The pass should have been over the top and nothing else. It was a terribly thrown ball and decision.

I think Sam wanted Waktins to break back toward the ball and threw it short on purpose. That is actually what WRs are taught to do.

I blame Watkins for no other reason than he is stinking big time this season

The pass seemed SO bad that I had no idea why he would even throw it. Who was he even throwing to?
So I went back to look, and I'm telling you, no matter how bad it seemed, when Watkins raised his hand and started running towards the sideline, if he'd gone straight, he would've at LEAST been very close to the ball, but instead he went behind the db.
He was literally right behind the db when he tried to intercept it, so he wasn't far away, he just drifted away rather than coming back to help his QB.
I could be wrong, but just watch it again, especially the replay in slow mo and see if it at least makes sense as to why Sam would throw there.

It was definitely a miscommunication so no one's fault. However had Winnie continued his route to the sideline,b I'd bet he not only catches it but scores. The db would've been flat footed thinking he had an easy pick.

Whatever the reason.....it seems as if Leavitt and Harris have some sort of mental quantum entanglement going and Watkins with Leavitt doesn't. Watkins should have at least competed for the pass but instead he said meh.

Which would not be the first time we’ve seen him do that.

Brother. If Sam doesn’t make a limp wristed throw it was a TD.

The throw was awful

Except Watkins isn’t going to do that when there is a DB in front of him

uh yeah, on Sam’s part. Can’t believe the OP is trying to blame Watkins for this. Talk about a reach.

You realize every receiver is taught to raise their hand, all the time. It freezes the defender a bit.

WRs are taught to come back to a scrambling QB in some situations. In other situations the right move is to break deeper.

He literally wasn't when Winnie threw up his hand and leavitt threw the ball. Still bad decision on leavitt but Winnie has to have awareness of the DB as well.
