Two solid years of distraction and the inability to coach his best team in the tournament.

He’s 43 years old. Let’s look at Cal, Jay Wright, Tony Bennett, etc at 43.

If they are competitive year in and year out and get consistently in top 4 or 5 in conference along with consistent tournaments then people will be happy. He is young and if he can do that I don’t see him leaving for another job. The more you make the tourney you can consistently get and retain better players and develop as a coach. Not Elite right now but is solid and all Elite coaches start somewhere. Only time will tell how good he can be and where he can get the program. I’m just glad the excitement and energy is back to at least move in a positive direction and see what happens

You actually just convinced me he’s elite

We would love PRETTY GOOD at this point.

Wade GOOD but not ELITE
Maybe. Possibly. Even if true, that seems like a very good thing to me for the LSU basketball program.
LSU football and LSU baseball… the goal is to win the national title. LSU basketball… the goal is to be consistently Good.
No one outside of Wade is expecting LSU basketball to be “elite” anytime soon.

Barely won more than half his games at NC State
He took them to the NCAA's in year 1. How is this a serious criticism?

Will you be happy with a similar record over the next 5 yrs as he had here in his previous 5? I don't think so.
Should we repeat the last 4? And who can we get that will do better? I'm not asking if there are better coaches, I'm asking who could we possibly have gotten that would be better?
quote:
not just regular season wins, but consistent tourney appearances and he has not shown he can do that anywhere
In his last 10 seasons that he's coached, he's made 8 NCAA appearances, with 2020 being a year where the tournament was cancelled, with LSU being a lock to make the tourney, as they were 21-10 and 12-6 in the SEC. So it would be 9 out of the last 10 years, taking 4 different schools to the tournament, with the one year of not being in (or would have been in, in the case of '20) the NCAA's coming in his first year at LSU, where he took a team that won 10 games the year before to the NIT. Oh and before all of that, his first head coaching job was at Chattanooga, where he led them to 20 wins in his second and final year there, which they hadn't done in a decade.
So what you just said about not making consistent tournament appearances is blatantly false.

He's elite with a $15 million nil budget and the gov, pres, AD ,chancellor and John Kennedy and speaker Johnson behind him.

Or basketball in general

You sure about that? You must be a recent bandwagon fan who started liking lsu in 2003 or later

It is the flex and effectively proves my point. By the standards of the past 50 years, he is an elite hire for us, and 80+% of NCAA basketball teams.

I’ll take consistently good, not great, over the shite of the last 4 seasons. I don’t have to have a Natty. Sure, it would be awesome, but I just want to enjoy a game at the PMAC again.

Enjoy Baseball mustache guy

He’s absolutely average X-O guy. His strength is building a roster of above average to really good players . That recipe hopefully get us to top half of league. Hes by no means a guaranteed tourney every years guy.

Wade... is elite. No telling how far Tigers could'f went in the 2019 tourney, if only Wade had been sidecourt for that one. That team was loaded, and was primed to make a big run. Heck, Wade nearly went Sweet 16 with frickin' McNeese!

He will sell tickets and is popular with the fans. Fans will continue to look past his record and LSU will make him rich. It’s good to be WW!

I disagree, but even if Wade is only good, that is light years better than where we were this morning. McMahon seemed like a nice guy, but he wookie have to be a million times better just to suck.
