re: That stupid triple from Thursday off the wall vs Cowan still irks me

If we threw off and won, then presumably Anderson would start Saturday and Eyanson lined up for Sunday (if win again). Everyone knows Jay throws his #1 in G1 of Regionals even in the 1v4 matchup. In that scenario, Anderson and Eyanson would be throwing in Regionals on short rest, when we’ve been handed a golden opportunity here to keep both our horses on standard rest.
This says it all. l would be floored if we didn't pitch Anderson Friday and then Eyanson on Saturday. Keep them on a limited pitcher count (80 pitches or so) and go from there. Keeping those two on a normal routine with full rest seems to be the most optimal plan.

Doesn’t stop the fact of Cowan being awful the past month
He got out of a bases loaded jam and preserved a 1 run win in G1 vs Arkansas. That was a week and a half ago.
He’s off his early season form and struggled badly vs USC, but the complete disregard of facts on this board never fails.

His last 4 outings he has an ERA of 54, 54, 0, 16.2. Now Cowan is going to continue to pitch in high leverage spots, as he should. But he’s going to need to be better than he has been over the past 3 weeks if LSU wants to make a deep run in Omaha.

Battling with which part of the OP is dumber:
How glaringly nonspecific it was given Cowan gave up 2 triples off the wall on Thursday.
-or-
How of the two, the one hit by the fatty, which went to the shortest little league porch down line (and a much bigger gap in playing field area when compared to that portion of Alex Box), was clearly the easier play and the obvious one to bitch about not executing on.

Now do the homerun ball in the 9th. 2 feet may not seem like much, but on that particular play its the difference in a triple off the wall and a routine warning track fly ball out.
Brown likely wouldn’t have had to jump, but that ball is hitting the wall at The Box too.
just not quite as high up the wall.

On Mahtook’s show, Jay acted like it wasn’t a guarantee that Anderson pitches on Friday.
Mikie asked about treating this weekend like a normal SEC weekend, but Jay talked more than he normally does about using this weekend to set up what they need for next weekend
So, to me that sounds like
Anderson friday night
Eyanson saturday night
Beyond that, you want to get work for:
Cowan (make sure your top reliever is sharp).
Evans, Shores (these are the top choice for 3rd starter, and you need to win 3 games at least).
I guess the ideal situation, like I posted in another thread:
Anderson + Cowan Friday.
Eyanson Saturday, ... with Evans/Shores in relief. Depends on how close it is. I assume if it's a tight game, you relieve with Evans since he has better control, and then plan to start Shores sunday. If LSU is up a good bit, you relieve with Shores and start Evans sunday.
Might be a lot of situational pitching, bringing in Noot or Rizy etc to pitch to a specific batter.

I need the measurements for the home run ball that barely scraped over the fence in the 9th compared to the box. USC’s centerfield is 390 the same as Lindsey Nelson’s and 325 on the down the line and LN is 320. It’s not dramatic to say everyone talks crap about Tennessee’s field when in reality USC’s is theoretically the same.

It would not have hit the wall because he catches it before it hits the wall at the box. At that’s being conservative. It very well could’ve one hopped the fence at the box with two extra feet.

I’d say I’d agree but if his eye issues were that bad then wouldn’t he be struggling mightily at the plate as well?
I mean it’s harder to hit a baseball than it is to catch it and he’s killing it lately at the plate so I’m not sure about the eye issue logic

I think the obvious answer if he did do that is that he IS planning to hold back Anderson and Eyanson for Saturday and Sunday in the regional.

I doubt he has any eligibility left. You also typically don't see 5'6" pitchers at LSU.
Well maybe Jay could play SS then?

Pearson should'f cought it. I dunno if it got hung up in the lights, or what. It seemed like a routine fly ball out

I wouldn’t hate Jay making that decision, but it would be a surprise, as it would break his established operating procedure of throwing your #1 starter on Friday and #2 on Saturday of regionals, regardless of seeding.
If Jay didn’t hold one of the best pitchers in college baseball history G1 of regionals vs one of the worst 4 seeds in recent memory, I’m not sure what’ll make him change course

Thank God you're not a player on the team.
