re: SQ: If Etling is that good - wouldn't the coaches have seen it in practice?

Miles is an idiot He thinks that if a qb thinks he's good he will be good. It's all about being comfortable for les's qb. So , everything in practice is to make Harris think he's a real qb and as comfortable as possible. The easy throws , one read at at time , knows what the defense will do and etc etc. Any little pressure it goes to shite. He trhrew high at the manning camp. Big pressure . Harris doesn't have the mental toughness to play qb. He can't read a defense. He's no leader. Les is ignorant

When you have a returning starter, he has to be beaten out on the field
Posted on 9/15/16 at 9:38 pm to TigerFan244
Miles doesn't like unknowns.
He sticks with Harris because he has played in his system. If Harris is that good in practice but hasn't produced in a game in 2 years u kinda figure out he is an all American practice qb and move on. Happens all the time some people just aren't gamers. I personally think he isn't that great in practice but Miles just sticks with what he knows

Honestly I seriously question coaches qb evaluation all around no matter.
Do you question Meyer? because Meyer really wanted Harris
How is this really relevant? He runs a different offense than LSU. We have a former NFL coach as offensive coordinator who runs a pro style offense. To me, it is pointless arguing about what the coaches see in practice and who is more talented. The LSU offense needs a pro style, game manager, who knows what to do with the football. I don't pretend to know how Etling will turn out. But what we need is not a "dual threat" like Harris or Jennings, etc etc. Why keep recruiting all these QB's that don't do what we do on offense? Why? Frick.

BH beat Etling in rock, paper, scissors. 2 out of 3

Harris was going to start because of more game experience, more knowledge of the playbook
It's been said that etling knows the playbook better than any QB on the team. He sat out last year for the transfer rule and apparently learned the playbook very very well. He looked like he was in full command of the offense last Saturday. No wasted time outs. No confusion wondering what play was being called. At the line of scrimmage etling looked sharp. Just needs some more time with the 1s and I think he'll be reminiscent of some former Alabama QB's who made good reads and could check down and throw the short passes to the play makers.
Guess we'll see what happens Saturday.

Les miles can't develop a qb
I don't think that's it at all. I tend to agree with the post before yours...

Harris is fantastic at practice. Once the pressure is on in a real game situation, he is below average. Same curse for Jefferson unfortunately.
I believe Harris has a boat load of talent but can't seem to put it together in a pressure situation - real-world, college ballgame situation. Sure, he was great in high school but he was also playing against other kids who were talented but not as talented at this level. Same for practice...he's good in practice but preforming in a real game situation and he seizes up. Maybe he gets tunnel vision and seriously just freezes mentally.
It's like presenting to a group - you can do fine with people you're around on a daily basis but get in front of a massive audience and you could potentially freeze. Some people thrive in it...others don't.
He's a good kid, very humble and still very emotional. Did he beat out Etling in practice? Probably. But in a real game - Etling just seems to have more potential.

" Miles doesn't like unknowns"
How much more unknown could any player have been in 2014 when Miles started Harris against Auburn?

Well see here's the thing...Nobody and I repeat Nobody knows if Etling is that good. We saw a very small sample against a lesser opponent in Death Valley. This board has been so deprived of QB hope that we throw ourselves in and appoint any success as a saving grace. Truth is the jury is still out. We will know a little more this week and more when we go on the road.

Wtf are you talking about. How would anybody know that BH was gonna be a deer in the headlights this season before it starts!? Or that DE wasn't gonna be Jarret Lee 2.0 with interceptions.
I don't know! What makes you think I am implying that anyone should have known?

Lol, we heard this same shite before 15. Miles is an idiot and will start Jennings no matter what.

Heard of DJ Welter-Kendall Beckwith? That's how much faith I have in the Miles braintrust's player evaluation abilities.
So Miles is responsible for the defense? I thought we weren't giving him credit for that.

He's ultimately responsible for everything and gets paid 4.3 mill for his responsibility.
Funny how you can see that with Arsene Wenger and not Les Miles.

I have never heard that Harris, or any of the qbs are good in practice. Harris was brought in as a freshman and was cams recruit, without a clear cut winner, Harris is your default.
However, I have heard really good things about Scott, but I just don't see Miles burning his eligibility when there are 3 guys ahead of him. T
One of those guys should be able to get it done

All but QB's
Harris came in as a true freshman in 2014. JJ played as a redshirt freshman.
Miles has been open to young guys at any position. Whether or not they've been good is an entirely different conversation.

Simple Answer:
- You don't know Les Miles!
Nuff said.........

I think it is more-so that BH is really good in practice and cant perform in a gametime situation. That or the typical answer of Miles is stubborn.
