I don’t believe in retiring or restricting any numbers.
It’s sad that this seems to be more of what this is all about.
I would hope Burrow and Daniels would want to see the next greats wearing the same numbers, because they care more about LSU than themselves.
Why can’t DJ ball out at LSU in his favorite number? It’s nice so many elite players have worn #7, but if Tyrann had won a Heisman we would just want to end that number? I wouldn’t.
I care more about LSU than one player crying over a number. The ridiculous thing is Daniels throwing LSU under the bus over it when LSU very much helped make him into something special.

There are around a dozen duplicate numbers on LSU’s roster as it is already. Its petty, but players these days put high value on getting a low digit number. Its not the NFL where you only have a 53 man roster. There’s 100+ players on college rosters…too many if you start taking jersey numbers out of circulation.

I’d be fine if Pickett asked for 9. That’s big shoes to fill. He would definitely have pressure to perform.
It would actually be awesome if Big Dick Joe stepped in and publicly stated he wanted to fix the situation by having Pickett wear number 9 instead of 5. Joe would become an even greater legend.

Pickett and Daniels are both being cry babies about a stupid number. Daniels won the heisman, what in the hell has Picket done to even cry about getting the number. He knows the history, they both need to let it go. Kinda reminds me of that movie The Fan. All about a stupid number.

LSU does not retire numbers anymore. If they did there would be a long list of deserving numbers and we would run out of numbers.
The number 5 existed before he arrived and will be here long after. Someone else wearing the number did not diminish what he accomplished. But his acting this way over a number is diminishing him.
This is some Shedeur Sanders Colorado type stuff going on here.

Absolutely! Pickett plays on defense.
Also, JD didn’t even win an SEC championship much less a natty. Until yesterday I probably would not have been able to answer a question on what number he wore. His number was not iconic.

Pickett didn't turn it into anything. Jayden did by acting like he owns a number. Its an LSU jersey not a Jayden Daniels jersey. It stops being a JD jersey the minute they change the name on the back. I was a JD5 fan but he just lost my respect. He and Burrow are not the same. One led LSU to what many consider the greatest ever season of college football. The other was the best player in one year of college football. Those two things are not equal.

You queers and your obsessions over the gayest things. I honestly wouldn’t even have noticed that was “prohibited”. I never gave a second thought to Pickett getting #5 until last night even when I saw Jayden decided to drag his own name through the mud. This boards obsession over numbers is strange. Personally couldn’t give 2 fricks over what # anyone is wearing on the field as long as they’re in P&G
