If some other names would join the idea has merit.

What? He said top to bottom. Not just the top. So yeah the B1G has the last three natties but the depth of the conference is not what the SEC is.

This year the SEC is 10-2 against P4 teams out of conference. The B1G is 4-10.

Gulf of America Conference

I like this.

I don't want to leave the SEC. It's where we belong. But since CFB is changing, and the SEC has already taken away our UF, Bama, Auburn, State, and UK annual rivalries, what's left?

What would a Gulf of America conference look like? Miami, FSU, LSU, UH, and A&M (if there was any self-respect in College Station) for starters. And I think Clemson and GaTech could be swayed. No, it wouldn't be the SEC, but the SEC of today is not our dad's SEC either. The SEC as we knew it is now just a notch above a TV contract.

Miami doesn't want to go independent. they are just lobbying for the Independence Bowl.

Everyone talking going indy....but the Big 12 is right there....and LSU would be the headline school in that conference.

Major conferences would blackball us for scheduling. We would have cupcake schedule. Recruiting would take a hit. Money would go away.

Miami has 29 years more national notoriety than Miami. Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, USC and Alabama have the power to go independent. LSU and Miami don’t have the historical cachet to do it with the same probability of success.

We helped to found and create the SEC. Our brand has elevated the conference. This is our conference. Sankey needs to Geaux!

How many national championships do Notre Dame and Miami have in the last 20 years? ZERO. LSU has two.

National championships doesn’t necessarily make you a national brand. Alumni base and money do. Unfortunately, I think we would find very quickly that LSU needs the SEC more than the SEC needs LSU. There are three conferences that matter in NCAA football: the Big Ten, the SEC, and Notre Dame.

Lol. Miami has hardly any fanbase. They can’t even come close to filling their own stadium for their football games. Their fan support is awful.

This is irrelevant to market size and overall fan base

Partner with Amazon Prime Video. Not Disney. ESPN already controls the SEC. Amazon gives LSU an opportunity to create something entirely different:

Not as far fetched as some would think.

ESPN is hemorrhaging cash and their liberal platform has ruined their brand.

Other avenues will become available sooner than later.

Don't get me wrong, the Amazon Prime broadcasts with PrimeVision is my favorite way to watch football, but we simply will never get the same amount of money leaving the SEC.

Even Texas bailed on their own thing.

What has Notre Dame's solo mission accomplished? An easy route that has never materialized. No undefeated seasons since 1988 and the Runner up two years ago.

The problem with streaming is that the casual fan is flipping channels and watching parts of multiple games unless they are highly invested in a game. Sure, I have Amazon Prime and Netflix and would be able to watch LSU on those services. I'm not going through the extra steps to launch Prime or Netflix to check the score of the Notre Dame BYU game while watching Kentucky Oklahoma. Same if it was reversed. I'll quickly flip around multiple games that are on my Dish guide.

I don't remember ever putting on Prime to watch an NFL game that the Saints weren't playing in. I'm not a big Monday or Thursday night NFL person, but I'll flip on ESPN for a few minutes to see what's going on and it might grab my attention.

because LSU vs Alabama is a matchup people want to see.
so is LSU vs Texas
or LSU vs Florida

LSU vs Rice, Purdue, or even Boston College isn’t drawing near the same number of viewers.

This is a what have you done for me lately, short sighted society that we live in. In the national perspective those two schools have more prestige at this moment in time

I didn't see where anyone said LSU had more prestige or a bigger fan base than Notre Dame, which they don't.

What they do have is a blazing hot media profile. The fact they haven't "sniffed a playoff" since 2019 makes it even more impressive. They were hot before hiring Lane, but he's brought it to a much higher level.

By all means, though, carry on with your Bobby Hebert talking points. You're doing great!
