I think we would prefer to stay in the SEC but not by bowing to Sankey. If he tried to kick us out, then I’m sure we are no longer contractually obligated to much as far as tv rights go.

I do think scheduling would be the main issue for the first 5 years unless it started a domino effect with teams like Miami, USC, etc. Then you would just play each other.

As do i...but where does the BS stop with Sankey?

We will not have anything favorable happen to LSU in terms of the SEC. I can't imagine our schedules coming up if Sankey is still around, and you know we aren't going to get favorable calls in any ballgames when playing SEC teams. Just see KY. It blows my mind what this little liberal pos is doing, to one of the overall biggest brands in college sports. He is obviously in tight with a few of teams, namely Tenn and OM, and Alabama.

so we go out and do like ND...play the service academies, pick up a few big 12 games, maybe an ACC team or two, then some state schools. No different than Notre Dame.

Will slowly die if we resort to playing the service academies every year on Amazon. Death Valley is only Death Valley when big time opponents come in. LSU fans will lose interest playing shite opponents all year and the national brand will die a slow death

I don’t think the death would even be slow. It would be almost immediate. We will have less money, worse matchups, less viewers, worse coaches, and worse players. That will happen almost immediately. This is just a ridiculously stupid idea to even entertain. Those in favor of it aren’t capable of even seeing 1 move ahead, much less 2 or 3. It’s wild.

frick Sankey. He is not “the SEC.” It was around for a long time before and will be for a long time afterwards. He may have been the most powerful person in CFB 5-10 years ago. But he’s been neutered lately and doesn’t have the juice to push LSU out. Hell, he’s probably gonna be pushed out in the very near future. He’s a tiny, obnoxious hurdle right now, but we’ll get through and beyond the little time he has left.

LSU is a bigger brand than Miami. Look at The Athletic recent evaluation of such.

That is true

That is laughable

Neither is Miami.

That is going to change shortly.

Crazy take

I tend to agree.

Right now, LSU is in the top 10 (#6) in terms of viewership numbers for this season, behind 5 other SEC teams.

https://www.thebiglead.com/top-10-college-football-teams-with-most-viewership/

Ole Miss is #8. That matchup probably helped propel LSU's numbers. They also play #4 Texas, #2 Tennessee, and #1 Alabama. Those will all bolster LSU's numbers as the season progresses. But the key there is that the matchups help drive the numbers.

The most recent survey/study of fan base size does not really look good for LSU as an independent, either (looks worse for Miami on all fronts, though). Top 16 fan base size from 2022

1. Ohio State Buckeyes - Fan base size: 11.26 million

2. Notre Dame Fighting Irish - Fan base size: 8.21 million

3. Texas Longhorns - Fan base size: 7.82 million

4. Penn State Nittany Lions - Fan base size: 6.36 million

5. Michigan Wolverines - Fan base size: 6.26 million

6. Florida Gators - Fan base size: 5.89 million

7. Oregon Ducks - Fan base size: 5.54 million

8. Alabama Crimson Tide - Fan base size: 5.34 million

9. Wisconsin Badgers - Fan base size: 4.57 million

10. USC Trojans - Fan base size: 4.46 million

11. LSU Tigers - Fan base size: 4.02 million

12. Georgia Bulldogs - Fan base size: 3.99 million

13. Texas A&M Aggies - Fan base size: 3.87 million

14. Syracuse Orange - Fan base size: 3.45 million

15. Auburn Tigers - Fan base size: 3.27 million

16. Tennessee Volunteers - Fan base size: 3.27 million

You think Miami is a traditional blue blood?

ND > LSU > Miami as far as national brand

It's going to be tough for a founding member of the SEC to leave the SEC...

Well, it WOULD be different than Notre Dame. Their history and being the prominent Catholic school in America gives them a built in national allegiance from people who have zero ties to the school. And they’re basically irrelevant in any other sport. Still, even if we WERE the same, is this:

so we go out and do like ND...play the service academies, pick up a few big 12 games, maybe an ACC team or two, then some state schools.

what you want? Forget all the other sports this would kill, THIS is what you want for LSU football? And you can’t see how that would destroy our brand? Fans of other schools tune in to watch us play Bama and Ole Miss. Texas and Oklahoma. A&M and Auburn. Florida and Georgia. Our OWN fans wouldn’t tune in to as much or as long to watch us play Notre Dame’s schedule. And they sure as shite wouldn’t sell out and show up for those games in Tiger Stadium like they do now.

There is literally zero upside to this. Nothing but negatives. Quit letting Greg fricking Sankey terrify you. He’s not The Big Bad Wolf. He’s a fricking mosquito.

The problem with that is that our schedule will probably look like a cake walk compared to what it is now. SEC teams would likely refuse to schedule us for a long time. B1G and SEC are supposedly moving towards a non-conference scheduling arrangement once the 24 team CFP is finalized, so its unlikely that many B1G teams would want to schedule LSU and add an 11th game vs a power opponent. So we’re left playing a schedule thats going to be a mix of Big 12, ACC, G5, and FCS schools. That schedule doesn’t move the needle enough for a national audience for us to come out ahead as an independent. Not to mention, being an independent would destroy the baseball and basketball programs

This topic is not worth 1 post, much less 3 pages.

There is no scenario where LSU is leaving the SEC, voluntarily or involuntarily.

Miami is not a blue blood….in fact LSU leads Miami in nearly every statistical category.

If the sec or other conferences forbid scheduling lsu, I would see everyone bogged down in the courts. Notre dame controlled its schedule. I’m not a lawyer but how could conferences black ball scheduling any school for that matter?

So LSU would just schedule Notre Dame, Miami, the service academies and a bunch of cupcakes every year. No thanks.

Part of what makes LSU's brand is playing in the SEC and their rivalry games within the conference. If we left the conference then those schools would all refuse to play us.

Miami could go independent and still play Notre Dame and FSU each year. Those are the only two games on their schedule that matter. Then they could open it up to playing a couple SEC and Big Ten schools each season from there.

This is not apples to apples.
