Miami is not a ‘national brand’ like ND.

They are a very big name in a very weak conference. That’s what gives them leverage and rationale to saber rattle.

LSU is in a very different position…

This would 100% be the issue

SEC and its members would put a silent ban on playing LSU for a probation period

Then your tv appeal drops dramatically

LSU gets great ratings because it plays big time opponents in big time atmospheres

Playing Cal-Berkeley wouldn’t get great ratings

Sankey will move on someday, but LSU will remain a constant in the SEC as long as the SEC exists.

You have to make a conference adjunct deal - like ND has with the ACC otherwise scheduling is a nightmare. And Amazon ain’t paying big bucks for LSU vs bowling green and ULL.

Per CNBC valuations, Notre Dane 6th at 1.13B, LSU 12th at 1.05B and Miami 29th @ 760M
So LSU materially higher than Miami, which folks need to realize is mostly a regional brand competing with pro sports. LSU competing with the Saints only regionally and has National positioning.
Bottom line, they could absolutely pull off a contract now. However, the question is what % of the brand value is from SEC affiliation and can they maintain or grow outside of the SEC at the next contract?

Personally I would love to see them look at what kind of hit in brand value occurred due to this unfounded lawsuit from the SEC and counter sue the conference for the difference, win that suit and negotiate with the conference to have Stankey resign immediately in lieu of monetary damages.

How about we let someone else set the market first for once? Look at the jersey patch deal for instance.

Miami is openly exploring independence
Miami would much rather be in the B1G or SEC I can assure you.

Independent may, MAY mind you, be preferable to the ACC, but the only reason they’re looking at independence is as a fallback if they can’t get into either conference due to federal rules.

As for LSU, they are far better off in the SEC than any other arrangement they could imagine.

The simple proof, is who the hell would they play? Tell me that.

What your AI slop is missing is that this
quote:

LSU has the national brand, loyal fan base, and championship pedigree to negotiate its own future?

Will slowly die if we resort to playing the service academies every year on Amazon. Death Valley is only Death Valley when big time opponents come in. LSU fans will lose interest playing shite opponents all year and the national brand will die a slow death

LSU draws more viewers than Notre Dame
They also play a far better schedule than ND which they wouldn't if they go independent. No big brand teams are scheduling LSU ooc. The best you'd be able to offer is mid big12 and acc teams

LSU draws more viewers than Notre Dame...

Because they play better teams, have better matchups. They would absolutely not draw more viewers than Notre Dame if they played their schedule. ESPECIALLY if those games were on a streaming service.

This is just a terrible idea all the way around. Would be bad for football, would kill baseball. Jay loves LSU, but he’s bouncing as soon as this is announced. Don’t think either one of the basketball teams could survive. Certainly thrive. Scheduling 12 games for the football team would be incredibly difficult. 30 for basketball? Mulkey’s retiring. And then all the other sports—how are they going to schedule games. How are they going to pay for travel?

For the football team to not have a disgustingly bad schedule—if that’s even possible. No SEC schools would play us. I’m not sure why the Big 10 schools would. I’m not even sure why the Big 12 or ACC schools would. But whatever non-directional schools would actually agree, they would have much, much more leverage. We’d have to play a bunch of home and homes. shite, some schools might make us play there twice, but only come here once to do it. So we’d lose home revenue for an extra game or 2 every year. And with the expanded playoffs, there would be a lot of empty seats in Tiger Stadium during the regular season when hunting season starts and we’re hosting LA Tech or ULM for the 5th year in a row.

And recruits don’t come to LSU to play LA Tech and ULM on fricking Amazon Prime.
This ridiculous idea would destroy our brand. Quickly. And would affect university attendance. Less students, not as much tuition. We’d lose research grants.

Just so many terrible unintended consequences that anybody with a working brain should be able to see pretty easily. We are absolutely not leaving the SEC of our own free will. And are 99.99% likely to never get kicked out. All this talk is so silly.

Wow, do you know anything about CFB? Did you just say Miami is bigger than LSU? Is that why they never sell out and routinely play in front of 70% crowds despite playing in smaller stadium? They don't even have their own stadium for lack of demand. No one cares about Miami football, not even in Miami.

My daughter (no pics) is getting her grad degree at Miami and lives in Coral Gables. Last Fall around the campus you’d see students wear U apparel but not so much on South Beach or in Miami proper. (Now as you travel North in that fine city you’d run across quite a few U fans.) What she was puzzled by was that unlike LSU and Baton Rouge, U Miami and Miami city of, doesn’t shut down for a game. Miami doesn’t become gridlocked or overrun with college sports fans where it becomes THE destination.
In one weekend alone while we were down there there was a U Miami game on Saturday, a Dolphins game that weekend, a Marlins game, and some other event - I believe an NBA game on a Sunday evening. Yet if we wanted to go to dinner downtown, or cruise through South Beach or even just hang back at the hotel, you couldn’t feel the “event takeover” like it is on a Friday night or Saturday in Baton Rouge. You just drive and parked and went in. No worries.

I think if the U went independent it would dry up quick, but not nearly as fast as LSU and Baton Rouge would as an Independent - it would look like a Louisiana Tech game if they went Independent. Miami has enough infrastructure that it wouldn’t even know one way or the other if folks were in for a game or not or even if they were playing a game.

Both teams need a conference. I’d love to swap out Mizzou for U Miami in a heartbeat. And all this talk about LSU getting kicked out we better hope we’d land in the B1G because we’d be literally begging to be in the ACC or otherwise we’d be toast.
