Miami Wants Independence. LSU Should Want an Empire.

Sankey Wants LSU Out? Amazon, Let's Talk.
Miami is openly exploring independence. LSU should be thinking bigger and moving first.
Greg Sankey is reportedly threatening to kick LSU out of the SEC? Let him. Maybe that’s exactly the push LSU needs to reclaim control of its own future.
Why continue letting the SEC control our media rights when LSU has the national brand, loyal fan base, and championship pedigree to negotiate its own future?
Partner with Amazon Prime Video. Not Disney. ESPN already controls the SEC. Amazon gives LSU an opportunity to create something entirely different: an exclusive national football package, global streaming distribution, premium sponsorships, original programming, and direct monetization of the LSU brand.
The objective isn’t simply a bigger television check. It’s increasing LSU Athletics’ long term enterprise value by controlling our content, distribution, and commercial opportunities.
First mover advantage matters. Once Alabama, Georgia, Texas, and the rest realize what’s possible, the negotiating leverage changes.
Yes, existing media contracts through 2034 make this complicated. But that shouldn’t stop LSU from developing an exit strategy today.

LSU can’t in any way, shape or form expect to be paid for TV rights what they are presently paid as a member of the SEC if they went Independent.
Which network would air the games and pay top tier money for a LSU team that would no longer be playing Alabama, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Texas in one season?
Where would the games air?
Streaming?

Interesting take. What would our schedule look like. I personally like being in the best conference top to bottom.

Let play your game, for a second
LSU leaves SEC and starts negotiations with A streaming service, first question they will ask is who are you playing in these games for us to give you all this magically money?
Well the SEC and other conferences forbid there members to schedule LSU them what?
Would you pay millions to broadcast LSU vs 9-10 directional schools? I think not.

Start a new conference, call it Gulf of American Conference.

Beyond just Amazon Prime Video, Netflix is also looking to expand into the live college sports market.

LSU is not even close to as big of a national brand as independent Notre Dame or Miami. Not a traditional blue blood, nor have they sniffed a playoff since 2019. Crazy take

One of these things is not like the other.

How many national championships do Notre Dame and Miami have in the last 20 years? ZERO. LSU has two.

How many playoff appearances does LSU have vs those schools in the past 5 years? This is a what have you done for me lately, short sighted society that we live in. In the national perspective those two schools have more prestige at this moment in time (& historically). Take the P&G glasses off.

LSU is not leaving the SEC. Write it down.
If anyone leaves, it'll be Sankey. He made himself look like a moron.

Notre Dame plays a weak schedule every damn year and are always propped up in the preseason rankings. The keep winning, they stay ranked high. It's easy to beat up on a bunch of weaker teams and go around saying "but we're undefeated." Who did you play? A bunch of nobodies.
The perennial overrated team. Every year. You can count on it.

You know right that MORE people in the US have access to ABC/ESPN than Amazon Prime right? I looked it up...they do. So if you would want to limit the LSU viewing audience, signing a deal with Amazon (IF they would even get a good offer) would REDUCE viewership. Thanks but no thanks unless LSU is forced to do that.

What is it with all this bull shite. Sankey is a dumbass but he’s not kicking us out of SEC

Miami is locked into a shitty ACC TV deal for the next 10 years. That’s why they want out. LSU gets $72 million per year from TV SEC TV money. Notre Dame gets $50 million from its NBC deal. You think LSU can get more than Notre Dame?

If there were eight teams that would play us. Not join us but play us from the sec, it might be okay.
