File this in the “things we already know” file.

But just an update.

Dusty Dvorceck and Danny Kanell on SXM had Matt Barrie on. Dusty says
LSU a top 5 job in nation.

Barrie was asked which job is better.

Answer Paraphrased:
“I Can’t say one or other in this current world. Not that easy. Both are historic good programs”
However.
Usc for conference success. It’s easy to take over Pac at USC. LSU not easy at all.

But
In terms of college football job. It’s LSU.

The south loves football.
USC isn’t supported like LSU. Not even close.
LSU won with three different coaches. You can dominate the nation from BR with the right coach. Sure Saban is great but LSU can dominate.

If im woody I'm telling any candidate considering both lsu and usc about how Helton wasn't even allowed to hire or fire any of his staff or make any playcalls. Dude was an absolute figurehead

Kannell must've been dying inside while Matt was saying all of this.

This. I hope our AD is using message board rumors to entice candidates to LSU.

Seems like the concensus among most is that we're a top 5 program, I think a lot of it has to with folks realizing that we won our last two championships with questionable coaches at best. Either way, it's awesome to hear.

As much as I hate to say this, Texas should make this list.

Exactly. LSU has more NC then every team not named Alabama since 1997. We should have 4 since 2003.

The only thing you have to say is:

20 years...3 different coaches...all with minimal to average success at their prior jobs....3 National Championships. Let me know the other programs in the nation during that same time period who can say that. I'll wait"

How many coaches’ careers does Texas have to tank before they aren’t considered a top 5 school?

There’s about 10 schools I’d put above Clemson. There’s a difference between a current coach having success somewhere (in this case because of a complete lack of conference competition) and the program displaying success over multiple coaches. Oregon, Florida and Auburn just to name a few.

Clemson is not top 5.
They are Auburn/Penn State level good, not great, but still a place you can succeed at and retire at b/c once your established there, you aren't leaving for another job.

OSU
Notre Dame
Bama
Oklahoma
Texas
LSU
UF
USC
Michigan
UGA
Miami

there are built in recruiting advantages that will always be there for those schools i just listed that just aren't found at other schools. Not that they can't get to the point of having recruiting advantages, like Clemson is doing now, or like Tennessee and Nebraska did before, but you need a great coach to keep the national recruiting up at those schools b/c they don't already have that lure of attracting national recruits, or they aren't in a state that produces lots of top end talent that routinely wants to go to that school.

Not only did we win two with questionable coaches, we played in three of those with questionable coaches, and with competent coaching, could have gone to one in 2006, and 2012.

LSU can make a winner out of a bad coach. Texas takes a good coach to win.

USC has no institutional support. not sure why it's being viewed as a top job.

It's often pointed out that being "in L.A." is some sort of big selling point. But, is it really for someone immersed in the culture of college football?

Probably not Top 5 but they can play anyone they want (adjusting their schedule to be easier if they’re rebuilding), have a great brand, TV exposure and $$$, and always will be ranked as high as possible preseason and therefore will make the playoffs with only one loss. Also no conference championship game to screw them on the back-end.

Yes.

L.A. is probably the best city in the U.S. to live in as a multi multi millionaire.
