Not REALLY what he said. He did say he has LSU ranked higher than Bama.
He was talking about Strength of Record (which takes into account opponents record and opponents opponents, etc)
So, While he acknowledges that UT is better than anyone Bama beat...UT has 2 losses (that affects SOR)
I get that we LSU fans are often 'rabbit eared' for insults. But, that really wasn't an attempt at saying Bama played a "harder" schedule at all.
Agree 100%. And I think what he said is getting ruffles for nothing. BUT, my question after reading all this: why did he use this stat vs the strength of schedule? I see below someone posted it is 56 to 6. Is the Strength of Record used much? I've never noticed it. Just strength of schedule.
Edit to add: I didn't watch the whole video so there may be some context. Just ff to the 6:20 mark per OP.

here's what I know- beat bama and shut people the F up.
also what I know- lose a close one to bama and run the table, we'll be left out. reverse the roles and bama will still get in.

SOS that updates throughout the year
Bama 5
LSU 12
Sagarin
Alabama 28
LSU 62
The 6 and 56 are from a preseason opinion piece found here and are useless.

There is no way that Bama strength of schedule for games played is higher than LSU. Bama has played a team ranked#25. LSU has played two teams ranked in the top ten.
Bama big non conference win is Duke. Give us a break

Rankings are opinions. The links I provided are based on results and are without bias.

So LSU has Two top ten wins and after Auburn will have three.
Bama has not played a top ten team.
Bama will play LSU andAuburn.
I do not see how any system can conclude the way they have.

I dont really see what he said wrong. Everybody thinks we have the best wins but we had some cupcakes ourselves... All we gotta do is keep winning.

Bama does have the tougher schedule.
They have to play LSU.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think SOR is an ESPN creation, like their FPI and Total QB Rating. He's just using the company metrics for the sake of debate.

A top 10 win isn't a top 10 win if the team slips out of the top 10. Texas is 15th. What your opponents do the rest of the year matters and is reflected in the numbers I posted. They don't look at rankings. All that matters is who you beat/lost to and who those teams beat/lost to. It can be the methodology some use when casting their votes, but not the other way around.

He only said "would it surprise you if I told you Bama's....higher than LSU's..." It was one of those things.
It really wasn't a slight to LSU. I think it was genuinely one of those "can you believe this?" things. Given that LSU played at UT and played UF...it is a bit surprising to hear it until you think it through.

If you play 12 teams that finish the season 6-6 you will have a better strength of schedule than a team that plays 2 teams that are 11-1, 2 teams that are 8-4, 2 teams that are 6-6 and 6 teams that are 1-11.
If I had to write a formula I would take all teams that are ranked outside the top 50 and treat them as being ranked #51. The top 5 teams should all beat those teams the same, so it would give more weight to scheduling quality top 50 teams.

Whatever he quoted, is that the full schedule or just the schedule to this point?
Posted on 10/16/19 at 3:09 pm to Lsualum2017
If LSU plays five teams ranked between 70 and 80 and one ranked #5, while Bama plays six teams ranked between 40 and 50, which played the tougher schedule?
Let a computer decide, and it's Bama, but anyone can tell it's LSU. That's because LSU was challenged once and Bama not at all.

hate to break it to y'all ,but Rece Davis does not hate LSU.

He also says he has LSU ranked ahead of Alabama. But more to the point, what always gets lost in the SOS calculation is the difference between the 120th ranked team and the 75th ranked team. both teams are horrible and LSU/Alabama handle the same with ease, are blowouts wins, etc. Well, when you have several of those discrepancies with the bottom of your schedule, it can swing a SOS calculation quite a bit and render the calculation somewhat misleading.

Neither team has played that tough of a schedule.

Rece is quoting computer strength of schedule that hammers us because our rentawins have poor records.
We need to play more teams ranked around 50 instead of 100.
