So when Scott begged and begged and begged CoachMc to take the job, what else did he offer?

There is a reason I’m specifically calling you that and not anyone else.

MA's here. MA's there. MA's everywhere spewing out their acceptance of mediocrity!

"McHallman" got the rest of the season to do something and then it's "Farewell and Adieu."

Haven't yall seen enough now to know what we got there. There's enough evidence in the THIRD year to form an opinion and judgement. He ain't it!

Wade had talent coming in all the time and from the beginning. McMahon reminds me of Trent Johnson.

Vanderbilt hired a new coach, only has 1 player left from last season’s team and is better than LSU at this moment. I’m tired of hearing about how this guy is building something. It’s season 3.

It's just about getting the right guy. This idea that a coach in modern college basketball needs 2-3 years to "get his players" into the program is just outdated.

And you don't even need a home run hire. You just need to hit a triple and that coach can hit the portal and have 11 or 12 new players and make the NCAA Tournament in Year 1. Will it definitely happen? No. But can it happen? Absolutely yes.

It happens with any Coaching change. You don’t keep a bad Coach just because it may deter his recruits from coming. That’s ridiculous. If you hire a good head Coach they’ll want to play for him more.

This. Vandy is a great example of what can (and should) happen at a program if they are serious about winning in men's college basketball.

Now, is Scott Woodward serious about winning in men's college basketball? That might be the real question.

Letting McMahon go and bringing back Will Wade would re-elevate the program. That ain’t happening though.

There are two different discussions to be had.

A new HC can absolutely change the success of a program in one year. It's happened every year since NIL and the freedom of transfer years have been in place. No longer is it absolutely necessary for a coach to "build" for multiple years before he hopes to find success.

However, sustaining that success is a different discussion with so much roster turnover from year to year. Jerome Tang had a great first year at Kansas St (falling just short of the Final Four), but has since gone backwards in terms of success. Lamont Paris at South Carolina was just as bad as McMahon in his first season. Last year he reached the NCAAT. This year it looks like he might be battling McMahon for last place again. Dennis Gates at Missouri took a team of JUCO guys and mid major players to the NCAAT in his first season. He then went 0-18 last year. This year they are better. But how much is TBD.

The problem is that unlike the others, McMahon has not shown the ability to have even one good year. That means any talk about "sustaining" success is irrelevant because he's had no success to attempt to sustain.

Would rather a coach that can do more with less than one that's doing less with more. 2022 SEC Class Rank: 6th 2022-23 SEC Results: 14th (2-16) 2023 SEC Class Rank: 7th 2023-24 SEC Results: T-7th (9-9) 2024 SEC Class Rank: 4th 2024-25 SEC Results: T-15 (0-2) The two teams that LSU has lost to went 4-14 and 0-18 in the SEC last year. Without a miracle turnaround this season, the only question is does McMahon make it through the season.

Yep compare our classes to Florida and then get ready to cry

If he leaves after their freshman year they leave in the portal then.

I think they brought in David Patrick in case they get rid of Mcmahon in the middle of the season. Patrick has head coaching experience and could get them through the remainder of year.

Then you potentially have the problem of do you keep Patrick as the head coach.

I don’t see anything that matters regarding class or incoming talent. This thing is year to year nowadays.

If MM has a really bad year most our current roster will hit the portal anyway

The problem is that usually when you fire someone, the fans are thankful and agree with you. That was not the case with Wade.

He hired someone who is not getting the job done, so he can't just say,"We are moving in a new direction". He would have to admit that the firing was a failure on his part and his hire was a failure.

That's why he will give McMahan every opportunity to "prove that he was right". As long as McMahon improves - (not record wise, but in the level of play) Scott won't do anything. The problem as i stated earlier is that McMahon is improving by inches, while the rest of the SEC are improving by yards.

The General’s wife has a fat checking account. Talent might leave, but it wouldn’t take him long to restock.

BK had 3 years and hasn't done shite either. You might want to tapper your expectations; he's not going anywhere. Ya'll forget nobody wanted this job, Scott begged Matt to take it and reassured him he will have time to fix the problem. It's 5-year fix not 3.

If BK had even close to the same win percentage in conference as MM, he’d be gone this year.
