I agree too. I hate this forced rivalry shite between us and Arky and A&M. They’re not fun teams to play against who get me excited to go to a game. I grew up hating Bama, Ole Miss, and Florida.

I think A&M was brought in, with the purpose being to give LSU a rival
Had less than zero percent influence on their decision.
It was a play at the Texas market with a major athletic program, with unlimited money, and great academics. The intrigue of potential rivalry with LSU wasn’t even discussed. I guarantee it.

Why the frick does the SEC force creepy A&M on us
Posted on 3/9/23 at 2:38 pm to glorymanutdtiger
And they put OU & Florida together; WTF?
Posted on 3/9/23 at 2:38 pm to lsudave1
Should be Florida instead of A&M. This sucks.
For all those saying A&M is our rival, for Gods sake have a little respect for yourselves. Beyond embarrassing

I really wanted A&M to get UT, OU, and Missouri. Force them back into the Big 12.

It’s really gonna suck not playing Auburn, and FL every year. We’ve been playing Auburn for 121 years. This is BS

Wtf, how we end up with Bama? Then also ole miss and aTm. Why no Missouri or Kentucky or Vanderbilt or the like? They really do try to make it hard for LSU to get to the SEC title game

My assumption was that the SEC Championship Game would be over and done with.

Obviously majority of us aside from the Texas Tigers would prefer to get Florida yearly but apparently there’s too much money involved in an annual LSU-A&M matchup.
The big player here is Houston. Millions upon millions of eyes on both sides tune into this game yearly. Neighbors, coworkers and friends all interacting. Bragging rights. I do believe that this game being moved away from thanksgiving weekend will make it better. That makes me wonder who LSU will play in the season finale. You know UT-A&M is getting that slot. Ole Miss and bama are occupied. Maybe it will be an SEC opponent that rotates? Many are locked in with a rival already.
To put it into perspective, the LSU-A&M game is basically a Houston battleground game. The UT-A&M game is a Texas battleground game. LSU played the Aggies every year in the 80s and early 90s until the SWC dissolved into the Big12 and the SEC expanded in 92.

It only makes more sense if you start with the premise that Florida is the preferred rival for LSU and the premise that Florida views LSU as a primary rival
We are a primary rival, if you mean top 3. For them it's UGA first by a mile, then historically much more LSU and Auburn than Tennessee. How the hell did Florida get OU and we get A+M? Easy fix there was to setup OU with aggee.
I'm pissed.
Not shocked we got aggee, but figured Bama would avoid us and we'd get Florida and Ole Miss.

OU is already playing Texas. A matchup with Florida moves the needle nationally more than a very regionalized matchup with A&M.
It seems weird but it helps OU recruit florida and helps Florida recruit Texas. As we all know, OU is a Texas team who is physically located in Oklahoma.

If we don't play Southern, Grambling, Southern Miss or Jacksonville State, at least we'll get one entertaining halftime show in Tiger Stadium every other year by playing A&M.

This is literally the only thing about them that I think isn’t lame. It’s borderline respectable.

Georgia-Florida, Texas-Oklahoma and LSU-Alabama are paired. Auburn has both Georgia and Alabama. A&M has LSU and Texas. Oklahoma and Florida play each other. Those are considered the top 8 programs. They all have 2 games against each other. LSU is not disadvantaged.

Wish they would do away with the permanent shite. I’d rather play every team more often than a few teams every year.

They tried for years to force the Arky as the main rival. Now it's TA&M. It will be Texas VS Texas soon enough as their main rival again.

It’s Georgia and FSU by a mile, then Miami and Auburn much more historically. Tennessee and LSU were both manufactured by the SEC expansion in 1992. No one on either side considered LSU-Florida a rivalry before at least 1997. And even now, that’s far more on the LSU side due to a lack of true historical existing rivalries. Florida fans will care little whether they face LSU or Oklahoma yearly, especially since they still face LSU every other year. They’re probably more excited to get Auburn back more regularly.

I don’t think you have any basis for making that statement. If LSU and Florida really wanted the matchup, it would have happened. The fact that it didn’t speaks volumes to the priorities of both schools.

I was always under the impression that we didn't like playing Florida every year and they didn't like playing us. Each program was too good and there were other rivals where the game had more meaning (us with Alabama, them with FSU). Alabama-Tennessee, Auburn-Georgia, those were permanent cross-division rivals with real history and geographic proximity. LSU-Florida felt like a forced marriage. And if they end up with Oklahoma as a permanent opponent, they're back in the same boat - powerhouse team, Norman is way further from Gainesville than Baton Rouge.
