Me too. Someone on here mentioned you could rotate Ark/OU. One year they play us, they next they play Mizzou. But it seems like it would have been easier to just give us Arkansas.

It’s gonna be really weird not playing Florida and Auburn every year.

Wish they would do away with the permanent shite. I’d rather play every team more often than a few teams every year.

With this proposal we play every team in the conference in two yrs (home and away in 4), and you really don't want to rotate any faster. Doing so would actually create scheduling imbalances. Someone would have to play GA 3 times in 4 yrs while someone else would get Vandy 3 times in 4 yrs.

Think there is too much concern over these permanent opponents. The year we don't play FL, we will play GA and TX or OK, and TN or AU. SOS will be more effected by the year to year variance in teams' strength than who you play. Giving up 2 games over a four year period with a personal favorite will be more than made up with what you gain.

I think I was one of, if not the only, people who wanted UTexas instead of A&M. Longhorn fans are just a better breed of Texan than Aggies. I really wanted to see a UT / LSU rivalry develop, but I understand A&M makes more sense than UT geographically.

Happy with Alabama and Ole Miss. Would have rather had Florida or Auburn instead of A&M.

What happened to the rivery we once had with Arkansas?

A&M screwed that up. I much rater we have another Team to build a rivery with.

Arkansas, Auburn, Ole Miss makes way more sense to me than what we got. Ole Miss is historical, Arkansas, who has become a good rival game, and also like us, has no natural rival. LSU and Auburn is a good game year in year out and a program a lot like us. Thats a lot more interesting and manageable than Bama and Texas AM.

I agree with the guy who said we should have no permanent opponents. You would rotate through everyone fairly often if you did away with that, and would be much more fair.

Not at all.

LSU and Auburn weren’t regular foes until 92. Before then they rarely played. Arkansas has ALWAYS be a forced “rivalry”. Complete with one of the dumbest trophies in all of college football.

Florida and LSU have played every season for the last 50+ years. They should have been the permanent opponent instead of A&M.

It’s not a “rivalry” in the traditional sense, but there has long been a dislike of each other…which makes for a fun game

There is no way we are going to play three of the top teams in the SEC. They balance the schedule with a top-tier matchup like Bama a mid-tier matchup like A&M and a bottom of the barrel matchup like Ole Miss (historically not a good team).

I looked this up the other day and we've played TAMU since 1899 I believe. 61 times in total, but usually in stretches. The mid-80s to mid-90s is what formulated my hatred of them. It's not out of scope that TAMU is a rival IMO.

UF is probably a notch above, but it's not like the ridiculously manufactured Arky bullshite.

This makes sense. Basically OU Arkansas LSU and mizzou are rotating each other for the last game of the year.

LSU has only played Florida more often than LSU because A&M’s short stay in the Big 12 put the series on temporary hiatus. Prior to 1996, LSU had played A&M 8 more times than Florida. It was only after that that any even thought to consider Florida a rival.

Arkansas isn’t as forced as it seems from a more modern perspective. LSU and Arkansas have met 68 times, only one fewer than Florida. They played each other annually from 1906-1936 (except 1918 due to WWI.) The game even had a name, a trophy and a consistent neutral site location in Shreveport from 1913-1936. Unfortunately, LSU started to dominate and the series ended apart from a few meetings until Arkansas joined the SEC.

They gave Bama annual matchups with LSU, Auburn, and Tennessee. 3 teams that are historically above average in the SEC and all have won national championships in the past 25 years. I think they got the toughest permanent opponent trifecta

ETA: obviously all 3 are legitimate high level rivalries that most fans would hate to go away, but point still stands

I figured we were for sure getting a school in Texas and a school in Miss then either Bama or Florida. I actually thought we’d keep Florida but then read an article that like 3 of the biggest regular season tv audiences in the last 10 years have been LSU / Bama, even when we were not that great, and ALL of this is about tv revenues…. But, I sorta hoped for Texas too had we lost Bama

The top 6 are all paired: Georgia-Florida, Alabama-LSU, Oklahoma-Texas. They all have a second matchup with Auburn, A&M or, in Florida-Oklahoma’s case, another top 6. Those are considered the top 8. Each then has one of the bottom 8. Yes, Tennessee is at the top of that list (and arguably could be interchanged with A&M), but somebody had to be matched with Tennessee. From a rivalry perspective, that is logically Alabama. I think you can argue they have the toughest pairings, but the matchups were determined consistently and fairly. The difference overall is slight.

Exactly, and I want LSU Football discussed in Texas by a Texas team every single year , not every other year with not having a permanent Texas opponent.
A&M are weird people yes I get it but they at least are consistent crazy rabid fans. If they just didn't do as many cheers or have male cheerleader or that Midnight yell thing they have going on.

Damn, I might yern for a Tom Petty song more than ever now after reminding myself about how weird A&M is.

Look this is fine to me. 3 very solid opponents. Seriously who the hell knows who is running the show and who paid who what to make these decisions.
