SEC wants TA&M to be LSU's primary rival...been pushing it day 1 and nothing really happened till 7-OT.

Well, that’s out the door with the Texas addition.

Really wish we could have had Florida instead of aTm.

Completely disagree with you. But also we are still going to be playing Florida every other year so its not like the rivalry is going away.

LSU v UForfeit is too good not to play. That one hurts. And even Auburn before Aggie. Aggie feels like small ball. They are too weird to worry about.

I think anyone who still hasn’t figured out A&M has as much money as you need to eventually get consistent.
With Jimbo or not it will happen. Sooner than later.
Of course I’ve been saying that for 10 years.

And looked great in their bowl game.

One game doesn’t outweigh the big picture but I’m sure you know that.

not playing Florida

This. LSU has played Florida every year since 1971 as well as every year between 1951-1967. They're almost a permanent rival, like Bama and Ole Miss. And the rivalry is all tied up, and one of the best in the land, filled with bizarre endings.

Auburn has only been a yearly rival for LSU since 1992. That rivalry is known more for its low-lights than highlights. Thanks Curley.

It’s Georgia and FSU by a mile, then Miami and Auburn much more historically. Tennessee and LSU were both manufactured by the SEC expansion in 1992. No one on either side considered LSU-Florida a rivalry before at least 1997.

First off. This is an SEC permanent rivals discussion, so where FSU/Miami falls on their list is moot.

The. LSU/Florida rivalry wasn't remotely a 1992 expansion manufacturing. Tennessee, yes. LSU, no. LOL.

LSU and Florida played 36 of the previous 39 years prior to 1992. Almost every year since 1953. That's why they were paired as cross division permanents!

Tennessee and Florida played 12 of the previous 39 years.

Unlike many wishing for Florida, I hate, loathe, detest A$M. I'm glad we have them. Alabama, Ole Miss (a very old rivalry that used to be HUGE) and A$M seems logical to me. Poor Little Nicky has weak little sisters like Auburn (historical game) Tennessee (historical game) and LSU... No Vanderbilt... So he's pissed. Oh well. For once he didn't get his way but he kept his historical games and an always top television draw in LSU.

It’s really not. Sure, if teams just got to pick their 3 permanent opponents, LSU would be in that conversation for Florida, but that’s not how it works. No one was going to get everything they wanted, so each team had to decide how much political capital they were going to invest into each matchup. The fact that Florida has multiple non-conference opponents they consider greater rivals speaks to the relative unimportance to them of the LSU game. They weren’t going to put a lot into fighting to preserve their fifth or sixth most important matchup historically.

LSU had played Kentucky every year since 1949 (except 1951) at the time of the expansion. Simply playing a team annually does not define a game as a rivalry. No one considers or considered Kentucky one of LSU’s greatest rivals even though they played them even more than Florida. No one considered Florida a rival then either.
