God I hate this fricking sport now. Make picket wear 41 or something stupid and be done with it.
Or Pickett can just wear number five andJD can focus on training camp

If numbers keep being not used, at some point they will run out of one & two digit numbers.

That’s probably doable, we can either cut his highlights out and have shorter videos or insert new clips.

I remember Troy Aikman talking about his number at UCLA. I think they agreed for his number not to be used when he left but then a player wanted to use it and they contacted Troy and he said no problem. It might the knucklehead that came from Tenn that wanted it.
My thought unless the number is retired, it is free game. Maybe heisman/national titles you can park it for a few years. I can't blame either guys in this situation. If Pickett was promised this during JD5's time at LSU then I can't fault him. I can't fault JD5 for wanting the number to be used.
I think you should approach JD5 before doing this to see how he feels and not just do it. But I also feel like telling both of them to not be selfish.
Personally I'd rather see DJP wear 3 and be outstanding in the 3. We always think of Chad Jones 3, Hester 18, Peterson 7, Burrow 9, Daniels 5.

So basically they have 3 weeks to take Jayden off of any videos that are played in the stadium
I don’t even think they have to do that. If LSU owns or has the rights to play the footage used, then what legal right does Jayden have to make them not use it.

So the #5 is his forever in terms of usage off of the field?
Shouldn’t he be suing EVERY college, high school, junior high, etc. that uses the #5? I mean, what if the peewee qb liked him at LSU and wants to emulate him?
Or is he saying that anyone wearing #5 at LSU can’t use the #5 off of the field simply because they “look” like him (likeness). I mean, DJ doesn’t even play the same position.
Jesus Christ the man told you and you still are focused on the #5.
1) LSU gives #5 to another player.
2) JD’s mom throws a hissy fit.
3) She gets a lawyer to draft a C&D essentially demanding the university dissociate itself from JD entirely. Can’t use his name or likeness in promotional materials or recruiting.
It’s not forbidding the usage of #5, it’s petty punishment for using #5

Wth? I thought the Picket dude was on defense? JD is making a sad mistake.

Butt hurt over a number. Hes disappointed in LSU and im disappointed in him.
He thinks LSU insulted his legacy by giving out his number to a future first round pick, so now hes completely nuking his LSU legacy…
What benefit does he think he will get from this?

This feels like the work of his helicopter mom more than Jayden himself.

At some point, a high profile school would run out of numbers:
Oklahoma for example:
Heisman Legacy at OUhas produced seven Heisman Trophy winners (Billy Vessels, Steve Owens, Billy Sims, Jason White, Sam Bradford, Baker Mayfield, and Kyler Murray), but their respective numbers (such as No. 1, No. 14, No. 18, and No. 20) remain active and available to future players rather than being hung up for good. Instead of retiring numbers, the program honors its greats through other tributes like campus statues and the Sooners Sports recognition traditions.

Well I am assuming they will remove him from the NFLSU video, which sucks. But they don't want to risk him being booed by the fans because that would be a bad look.

What a terrible terrible look for Jayden Daniels

Retiring numbers is lame anyway
Posted on 8/13/26 at 7:21 am to 23hella
This is a completely stupid situation. Retiring jersey numbers in College is completely stupid and this whole "I'm disappointed" nonsense just sings spoiled and entitled which is his mother...

This screams of 'Mom' vibes from the Daniels camp. I love what Jayden did for LSU and is responsible for the 2nd best offensive production in LSU history and bringing a Heisman. Technically, the number is not retired so it could have been issued the next season. However, what LSU has done in the past indicates that is it probably shouldn't be worn at least anytime soon. LSU has some responsibility here and I believe they could have handled this better and been more open and transparent with Jayden on this. The BK era is probably the most likely to blame because whomever on his staff promised DJ the #5 is wrong. I just hope it wasn't Corey Raymond, and we might likely never find out or at least anytime soon. I hope they are able to figure this out. If not, and at the end of the day, I'm going to have to side with LSU and not JD5 if I had to pick a side.
So, there is now 14 topics in a row on TRant about this jersey deal. It's a big deal and likely will not pan out well for JD5.
Over and out,

This is so fricking lame from Daniels.
Posted on 8/13/26 at 7:23 am to 23hella
So now players get to decide if their number gets retired? Dumb thing for him to get upset over. Sounds like it’s really about money and using his name /image/likeness without his permission. He (or his family) is just trying to milk every dollar out of his career but this will only hurt his legacy at LSU. Another example of why college sports are ruined.
Returning numbers is outdated. After 100 years of football you won’t even have enough numbers to field a team if you retire every great player #.
