As stated many time already... LSU does not retire numbers anymore. So Pickett could get his jersey retired, but not the number. Jayden will likely get his jersey retired eventually. Same with Burrow.
If someone promised a baseball recruit #3, would you be ok with it? Crews will never get his number retired, so should Jay give it out to some kid? Of course not. It's why Danny Dickinson wore #14 and not #3.

21, 37, and 4 are all still numbers on the roster. A walk-on is wearing Casanova's number and you dont see him bitching

Could an argument be made that LSU has some claim to use the image and likeness since he was at LSU when he won the award? He clearly benefited from being on the team.

I've never been a fan of retiring a number, regardless if it's Billy Cannon at LSU or Drew Brees with the Saints.
I understand not immediately issuing to someone the following year, especially at the same position and if the new player isn't expected to be great.
But highly touted, bonafide SEC starting CB as a Freshman now entering his Sophomore season should absolutely be able to get the #.
Daniels is now 3 years removed from LSU, has made millions already, and is on his way to earning a HUGE 2nd contract. I feel like his priorities aren't exactly straight here.

Wow, this is really disappointing. I loved Daniels, but this is absurd. His number is not retired.
