Well since we were supposed to win 5-7 games this year it has already been over the expected projection and more than 90% of people expected. Win or lose we have had a great season in rebuilding year 2

Two things can be true at the same time.
A loss to A&M would be disappointing; however, seeing what was expected and what has transpired.... NOT a bad season.
Would I like more? Of course.

A&M is a good team and we’re playing them on the road. It’s not like they’re Rice or something. I can handle a reasonable loss. A blowout on the other hand...

So like ogeron drops passes, throws interceptions, misses field goal...

While a disappointment , no ! We could still have a 10 win season AND PERHAPS WIN A GODDAMN BOWL GAME!! for a change

With our depleted secondary I see Aggy as a touchdown favorite. Just the facts. Fulton Matters

“ so ogeron dropped passes, throws interceptions, misses field goal “

No, but he coaches up, recruits, and picks the guys to send onto the field to do those things.

He has far more decision making rights and responsibilities than anyone else on the LSU football team.

No, the game would be disappointing but the season, with this schedule, would be better than expected. Quit being so miserable. With that said, our offense is bad and has got to be fixed.

LSU has 1 win versus a team with less than 4 losses on the season, and so despite all the hype on how brutal their schedule was supposed to be, it turned out to be a dud outside of 3 teams to which they lost 2 of the 3 games.

Furthermore, it won't get any easier as both UF and A&M are going to get better next year as both guys are restocking those teams. LSU will be behind at least those 3 and probably UGA next year if they lose this game, because the offense won't get much better under the current staff.

The sad thing is that because of O being mediocre, the bar was set so low for this season that some will even celebrate a 9-3 regular season as signs of an amazing future.

Reality is that all of the 7-5 and 6-6 talk was centered around several teams being great, and most of them flamed out.

Auburn - 5 losses likely. (3-5 in the SEC)
Miami - 5 losses and possibly going 0.500
MSU - 4 losses and possible 5 if they lose to Ole Miss
Ole Miss - 6 losses
Arkansas is actually worse than last year
Rice is the worst team in FBS

The schedule turned out to be an utter joke compared to pre-season expectations, and people will ignore it.

We’re not “rebuilding,” shithead.

We were never rebuilding.

With the predictions of 7-5 and 6-6 I would say we have already exceeded expectations. The rest of the season is lagniappe

Yes, at this point it would be a huge disappointment if we ended up losing to A&M. A win can accomplish so much in regards to getting us to a NY6 bowl.

If LSU wins by 3 scores there will be those bitching and moaning because we only got 380 yards in the game. The only downside to this season have been the bitchy fans. A&M is favored by 2.5 pts. How could it be a "huge" disappointment? Bitch on.

So, LSU is in the top seven of playoff teams but losing to an unranked, four loss team is now a reasonable loss?

How things have changed with LSU football expectations.

Will this be a huge disappointment for everyone knowing what could have been or will people make excuses and say "oh well, its better than the 7-5 season people predicted."

It would be a major disappointment but, in my opinion we absolutely must win our bowl game this year. Yes A&M is a borderline must win too but our true must win game is whatever bowl game we get this year. Losing the bowl game could be devastating to the momentum we've built as a program and would make for a tough offseason as we essentially would be right back where we started at the end of last year.

I agree with all that. We need to win this game but losing the bowl game has lingering effects all off season. Need to end with a win but ending with two wins is even better.

This game kind of has the feel of a bowl game

Isn't this kind of a telling statement? LSU fans should be excited because the team didn't go 7-5 or 6-6 as predicted?

Only one time in the Les Miles tenure did he finish as bad as 7-5. In the 4 seasons prior to him being fired he finished: 10-2, 9-3; 8-4; 8-3 (would have been 9-3 had the McNeese game not been canceled). Yet, he was let go because the results weren't good enough.

Now, because of the significantly lowered expectations under Orgeron, fans should be thrilled if he goes 9-3? It wasn't good enough under Les, but now it's great under O?

I can only assume Les was fired because LSU had plateaued under him at 8-10 wins per season and the program was looking to take the next step up. However, judging by some of the posts here it appears Les was fired so LSU could LOWER the expectations of success, thus making the previously unacceptable record of 9-3 a cause for celebration under the new regime.

Simple question: What is the goal of this program?
