Considering the expectation going into the season, I'd say not a huge disappointment for the season but definitely a letdown.

quote:

Will this be a huge disappointment for everyone knowing what could have been or will people make excuses and say "oh well, its better than the 7-5 season people predicted."

The judgement of any season is predicated on rational preseason expectations. 5 losses was not an irrational expectation, though I honestly thought 4 was more likely.

quote:

In my opinion if we lose this game it stains the entire season.

I think the Florida loss has already done that and every loss does to some extent.

I do think that the first time we lose to SEC aTm will be a huge disappointment for that game in particular since it would mean the inevitable end to a streak I'd really like to see last indefinitely. Every year I think "this streak has to end sometime, but please let it not be this year".

It would be a major disappointment but, in my opinion we absolutely must win our bowl game this year. Yes A&M is a borderline must win too but our true must win game is whatever bowl game we get this year. Losing the bowl game could be devastating to the momentum we've built as a program and would make for a tough offseason as we essentially would be right back where we started at the end of last year.

No. The season isn't a huge disappointment but the finish would be.

The issue would be that if we lose this game we could end up not playing in an NY6 bowl. The citrus bowl isn't going to take us again. It would be pretty damn disappointing to go to finish the season in the outback or texas bowl.

This is the biggest this A&M game in my lifetime. Gotta win.

Absolutely. We lose to A&M and it’s like we lost 10 games

Huge? I wouldn't go that far.

But, it would mean a second 9-3 season with no perceived sense of progress (in fact, LSU would have a worse SEC record this year than last).

From an outside perspective it's tough to say a 9-3 record is a huge disappointment. But Orgeron (presumably) wasn't hired to get the program to a point where it was going 9-3. Les was at that point when he was fired. The coaching change was made to take a step forward from the stagnant 8-9 win seasons Les was putting up.

10-2; 2nd in SEC West and NY6 Bowl appearance = progress from where LSU was from 2013-2017.

9-3; 3rd in West with appearance in Outback, Citrus, etc. bowl means the program hasn't really hasn't pushed any further up the ladder than where it has been for the last 5 years.

Yes of course

Add on who coaches the opponent now.

Huge letdown if this team doesn't finish

I have always looked at this season as a stepping stone. In terms of where we are as a program and where we want to go, this game is huge. It’s a game that should be won if we are going to continue to build the brand and the program back into what it was 10 years ago.

Is the season a huge disappointment if we lose? No. But, damn. Missing a NY6 bowl considering the season would leave a sour taste.....for sure.

you can imagine how unbearable this board will be if we lose. it will be a big disappointment if we do. we must learn to finish strong if we are going to progress. the bitchers and moaners would have a right to bitch and moan, but the problem is it would never stop.

It shouldn't be based on pre-season expectations but yes it would damper things a bit considering all this team achieved with a woefully bad offense.

Keeping things in perspective the unbiased outlets pegged this LSU team as 5-7 to 6-6 basically.

Lose to aTm and it’s the typical season we fired Miles for, no matter the Bowl result.

5-3 in the SECW?

Pffft.

My LSU-fandom-mental-health is hanging on by a thread. That thread is this win streak; being the Alabama to A&M's LSU.

I'm irrational and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

Again we have overachieved. Our coaches have done a great job against a very tough schedule. And with 3 returning offensive starters and a QB who got here in June.

Would it be a disappointment if we do not win one more tough game on the road. Yes. Does it stain the season absolutely not

I don't judge the season on preseason expectations for this season, but on where this program wants to go.

9-3 with a great defense, bad offense, and lopsided loss to Bama means the program hasn't progressed at all since Les was fired.

10-2 with a NY6 appearance is at least progress and gives you some since of optimism that if LSU would EVER be willing to fix it's offensive woes, this program could return being the powerhouse it used to be.
