I have to eat some crow as well. I wasn't convinced and very much questioned when O was named Interim hc. But then after I saw how much more organized and just well coached the team looked that very first game against Missouri I started to believe that maybe O wasn't as bad as I thought.(though I was aware of how well he did at USC).
Then when he was hired as head coach, while I was very glad we missed on Fisher I did think Herman would have been a good hire (until I learned of his kissie face tendencies). Really I wanted Fleck over Orgeron at the time. But by the end of 2017, with the strong finish, I could clearly see we had made a great hire and with the miraculous coaching job he did in 2018, with the lack of talent and depth Miles had left us on the offense side of the ball and the way Orgeron was able to work around it, giving us a #6 finish to the season, highest since 2011, it really reinforced by belief he was a great hire. I really think Orgeron has us back in the thick of competing at the very highest level with Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, and Ohio St, possibly as early as this season or at least within a couple more years

Which was what we already had.

HAD is the key word... Miles program was trending downward and we were going to see more 4-5 loss seasons and our recruiting would start to suffer. A Miles team would not have beaten that Texas team. We would have gotten busted up like 45-23 type of score (2 TD and 3 FG lol).

Now, our Defense should be fine as I think a lot of players missed many fall camp practices and were not in shape. Add the 100 deg heat that day, temp not dropping much after the start of the game, high humidity, no AC at half, a 19 play drive to start the 2nd half, IKA not playing, Lawrence and others going out of the game in the 2nd half, and playing too much base defense with 3rd and long- WE will be fine!

2013 - 3 loss
2014 - 5 loss
2015 - 3 loss

is not a 'downward trend'

conjecture. very possible we would've ran all over them and played ball control. but continue with your make believe

I said the exact same for 3 years now, and held off on starting this thread until after this year

I don’t know a single person who objected to his hire that hasn’t stated he is doing a great job.

I’m not wasting my time going back and looking, but there are some. There were some posters mid game who wanted Ed fired. And not just in an emotional outburst. It was “when do we move on from O and hire Aranda as HC?”

In the first half of the Texas game? When LSU was winning 20-7?

I mean, it seems like he was in the exact same boat as many of the labeled "O Haters." He didn't care for the hire, when it happened. He didn't care for the hire of Ensminger, when it happened. Now it is very much trending towards being a good hire, and he wants to call people out? Maybe he should be among the first to "eat crow."

I'll take his place then. I always liked the hire. Wanted him more than Herman. Thought that even if he didn't pan out his recruiting would leave LSU in great shape. Best case scenario would be what we are seeing now in his 3rd year.

Im hopping on the O train mainly because i think its going to be a special year and i want to fully enjoy it.

But O's 2 best skills are recruiting and allowing his coordinator to do their jobs.

I think the real test will be if can consistently replace talented coordinators that get hired away. If Brady and Aranda leave and he cant go find guys to continue the success what did we really do?

Thats what makes a Saban so good. Year in and year out he replaces coaches and never misses a beat.

Beat Bama, crow will be eaten.

With all the goal post moving that happened between when he was hired and now, it’s easy to think that changing the offense was the whole point of it. It wasn’t. It was making the playoffs. Hell, for all we know Texas will shite the bed the rest of the season and we’ll loose to Bama and any other team with a decent offense and stout defense.

So to answer the question: no it isn’t time.
Not yet.

are you talking about legit posters, are trolls with 80 posts that just show up on the scoreboard?

I question the fandom of any person who is constantly on this board during a game (unless they are forced to follow the action on here for some reason). If you are on here posting non stop, then how much of the game can you actually be paying attention to?

That's fair, my issue was never with O but with "the search".

If things continue as the are this season, O will prove to be a great hire, but at the time of his hire, he most certainly was not.

After the fact, this is the only attitude you can have but people also wanted to make sure we didn't end up like Tennessee has ended up post Fulmer.

Yep, both ways, still gets there at times.

quote:

Lets also throw in the hiring of Coach Ensminger who by the way is one of ours but was made to feel that he was one of theirs(Alabama).

Never saw the ALabama thing, he was an the Aggie OC for a time in the 90s, for whatever that is worth today. Again I wasn't excited about E but adding Brady makes them a formidable combination.

If the season keeps going like it is, I'll be eating my crow with a smile on my face by the end of the season.

My thoughts exactly. After 10+ years of the Miles show I was willing to give ANYONE a chance, but if they didn’t show improvement, boot that arse with the quickness. We hung on to Miles for way too long because some dumbasses on here and elsewhere could not see the decline and Miles managed to recruit enough talent to compensate for his coaching shortcomings, of which there were many. The man could not even manage the damn clock. 4 million dollars a year and that clown could not get a damn play called without the clock running down to single digits.... year after year after year.
