There was a lot of other factors about him taken into consideration when he was hired.
There really weren't. Despite nearly firing Miles in November of 2015, we actually DID fire him in September of 2016. Joe Alleva had months to looks for a suitable replacement, and had two legit names on his white board, and a fall back option in our very own DL coach. There were no reasons to EVER consider him at that point beside his place of birth. There are reason for why no other program had not touched him, right?

Apparently it wasn't a terrible hire or we would be getting terrible results right now.
No, that's not how that works. We replaced a man who had gone 114-34 with a national title at LSU with a coach who had only had one full time head coaching job at it was a miserable failure at 10-25. Can you honestly say that back in 2014 or before when you and others were wanting to fire Miles you'd have been ok with hiring Ed Orgeron and his 10-25 career record as his replacement? come the frick on. We ALL expected a legit hire after a legit search. It does not matter if he never loses another game at LSU, there is NO WAY IN frickING HELL that retroactively makes that gamble at that time a smart one. It makes it lucky as hell, but the ends will never justify the means there. if it did, programs ought to start randomly throwing darts and the names of coaches with sub .500 records, since they are probably about to blow up and start winning big.

You can say that you thought it was a terrible hire if that's what you thought, but after two plus years it appears to not be a terrible hire but looking more and more like a pretty good hire.
See above. You can never retroactively decide that the hire, at the time, with the information we had on the ground, was a good move...regardless of how it turns out. That's simply the ends justifying the means...and the means was shite. it may end up working out, but not because Joe Alleva knew something we didn't but because Alleva took a giant gamble and it miraculously worked out.
quote:
If you want to attribute his success to plain dumb luck that's on you.
Nope...I don't. He's clearly changed some of the behaviors that lead to him being awful in the past. Basically, he learned on the job...which should NEVER be what we are hoping for when we hire a football coach here at LSU. As for being lucky, no...even though that's largely what people who were up Miles' arse for years said, right...that anyone could win here?
quote:
There will always be some hard core O haters on here but the group is shrinking.
There may be, but if the guy keeps winning I'll be one who happily says that he's the right guy for the job. I've said this all along, each and every time I'm told that I will never get behind him. It's almost like people have shite in their eyes and refuse to actually read what I'm writing and take me at my word. I'm not, however, going to conclude that after Game 2 of this season...which was what the OP was asking for, right?

When Coach O was hired all I kept saying was give the man a chance. At the worse he will fail and we will move on. Did I like the hire at the time, no I didn't. But the fact that this board was absolutely unbearable was an understatement.
So far he has been Les 2.0 with a few great wins and a few bad losses. This year looks different but it’s gonna take more than 2 games.

I think we have another candidate for “Troll of the Year”.

We're frickin 2 games into the season. That was a sweet win against Texas but let's not forgot O's humiliating losses to Troy, MSU, bama, A&M, Florida
