There are 3 catchers listed. Willis will start if he makes it to campus. If not, one of the two juco guys will likely play.

Which Freshman pitcher has to be shut down next year to over pitching. Seems to be a trend lately with arm problems and Paul.

Do you honestly think that Mainieri would put a player on the field that wasn't cleared to play by the training staff?

But why does LSU have injuries to its' top pitchers year in and year out? Who might be responsible?

Youth coaches and some high school coaches. When fatigue happens in college, it is most likely due to abuse long ago. It is not the college coach who caused it, but it’s the college coach who has to deal with it.

Reasonable

CPM is a darn good baseball coach

Reasonable

CPM somehow managed to finish second in both the SEC tournament

This was a HUGE accomplishment for the talent level of this team.

and the Corvallis regional.

Meh. That wasn’t much of an accomplishment. And Mainieri’s decision making with respect to the pitching staff removed the small hope we had at winning the regional.

In the end, those decisions didn’t actually matter because we just weren’t good enough to beat OSU no matter what pitching d visions were made.

I sure would!

I'm not saying CPM is a bad coach because he is far from that but if you are asking me if I would take other coaches over him then I would have to say yes!

I think there are plenty of other coaches that could have done more than he has IF they were at LSU..

Just my opinion..

Who? Who are the coaches that you would take over CPM?

Great Post from Ryan Theriot to put in perspective the season LSU Baseball has endured:

“In all seriousness, I'll say this...

When your best position player goes down for the year, your best pitcher goes down for the year, your leading hitter goes down with a broken thumb, and you lose multiple impact players to the draft, it's not easy to win games. The good news is this..... there's some STUD freshman on the roster that will no doubt be impact players, next season both Josh Smith, and Eric Walker will be back. There's a lights out recruiting class coming in, and lastly, we're LSU. It won't be long till the Box is rocking again.”

Injuries happen to every team, unfortunately our injuries this year impacted important players on the mound. Its hard to blame them for that. The coaches did everything they could to ensure these players get healthy. I don't blame him on that front, its sports for you. This happens at other schools besides LSU too.

But I do blame him for the hitting situation and lack of talent/depth at certain positions, thats all on him.

It was a rough year but of all coaches on campus PM deserve the benefit of the doubt to turn this all around. I do think major shake ups are needed at the plate. We need better catching next season as well.

Now if next season is more of the same then he deserves all he gets. PM has admitted to being asleep at the wheel before in the past. Hopefully we aren't hit hard by the draft and add some key pieces for next season

Can't really argue with any of this. As much as people hate to admit, it's tolerable in this day and age of college baseball to have a down season once in a blue moon - and as much as I hate to use the injury excuse, I feel like this wasn't your standard "everyone has them" type season for injuries. Even without the injuries I dont think this was ever going to be a truly championship caliber team. But like you said, next year we need to be right back in the mix. And I see no reason why we won't be.

Except for the entire year...

They're going to be stout AF with the returning guys and recruiting class. We will make a run at a national seed for sure.

You just have to laugh at all of the T-Ball legends that down voted this topic.

There is no reasoning with that level of stupidity. All of this pontificating by a bunch of wannabees who have never accomplished a damn thing in baseball is sad and funny at the same time.

I don’t know about any of those recruits to have an opinion - other than height doesn’t make a power hitter.

In the past 8 years we’ve had 8 players hit 10 or more homeruns. Only 2 over 15 and 0 over 20. Two of those years nobody hit over 10. Those are facts which represent a trend which can reasonably conclude that being his philosophy. Before that for 08 -10 we hit 100 or more hrs twice and the other year 78. Since then we’ve hit 51 or less 7 of 8 years last year we hit 69 and were runner up. It’s as if he got here and played LSU baseball, which is winning baseball, won a championship (job security) then said now I’m gonna do it my way.

But who should I believe? Theriot? Or Therant?

It’s funny the number of threads last year bitching because Mainieri wouldn’t move Walker to Friday night. Now this year everyone is saying Mainieri over worked Walker and Walker won’t be good next year

You realize that 2011 was when the bats changed, right? It's no surprise that our HR numbers went down since 08-10.

Here's an article from 2011 discussing the results of the change:

quote:

Home runs left parks at an average of .52 per team per game in 2011 compared with .94 last year and 1.06 in 1998 (also the peak year for that category). That resembles wood-bat days, too (.42 in the last year of wood in 1973, and .49, .50 and .55 in the first three years of metal).

So, it shouldn't be surprising that our HR numbers were nearly cut in half from 08-10 when the HR numbers in college baseball as a whole was nearly cut in half.
