Which Freshman pitcher has to be shut down next year to over pitching. Seems to be a trend lately with arm problems and Paul.

Wait so when we have a freshman pitcher step on campus with injury concerns, it’s paul’s fault they were overused in high school?

They're going to be stout AF with the returning guys and recruiting class. We will make a run at a national seed for sure

for sure? No.

But, next year is a new year. We'll be better on the mound. We lose our best two hitters and our best two outfielders. Who knows if Smith is going to be able to play.

There are a number of unknowns for next year.

Tim Corbin
Pat Casey
That’s your top 3 coaches in college baseball, unquestionably

Jim Schlossnagel
John Savage
Brian O’Connor
These 3 are as good or better than Paul

You could certainly make an argument for them over Mainieri, although Corbin isnt exactly playing on an even playing field and has underachieved.

Schlossnagel and O'Connor both missed out on the tournament this year and Savage has missed out on the tournament 2 of the last 4 years and was knocked out of a regional the two times he made the tournament. You'll have to come up with better examples than those three.

You probably can’t name 10 college baseball coaches without using google

7 right off the top of my head.

Sullivan - UF
Bianco - OM
Dave Van Horne - AR
Tim Corbin - Vandy
Pat Casey - OSU
Mike Fox - UNC
Gary Gilmore - Coastal Carolina

Again, I am not bashing CPM I just do not think he is the best coach in baseball. I think LSU is the best job in baseball and he is LSU coach.

I don't disagree, but I'm sure other team's fans think the same way. Just as football fans of USC, Ohio State, Florida, Texas, Notre Dame, Michigan and Bama think the same thing.

look I think CPM has his issues, nepotism being a major one. Also tend to think he's way over corrected the style of player he goes after post bat change.

but I think we take for granted the consistency we've had during his tenure. It's not as easy as just being LSU like it once was when we were investing more money in the program than 90% of the country. It's a more competitive landscape now plus the shitty scholarship limits.

In terms of CWS appearanes, I'd say CPM is in this group.
Like Corbin, I'd say O’Sullivan has also had the tools to do much better, and a CPM 49-17 good team sent one of Casey's best squads (55-4) packing last year.

TD Ameritrade happened?

Possibly, but that’s an over reaction by PM if so.

You realize that 2011 was when the bats changed, right? It's no surprise that our HR numbers went down since 08-10.

This year we were 10th in the SEC in total hrs and 112(!) in hr per game in all of the NCAA, which is probably about the same in 7 of the past 8 years. I don’t know why this is being argued as most would agree small ball has been PMs identity for a while now.

I will admit the bats and TD Ameritrade have played a role in PMs reasoning but this is college baseball it’s not rocket science. Besides, we’re not the Oakland Athletics of college baseball we’re the effing New York Yankees!

You think losing one of our best bats in the lineup might have something to do with this?

Yet we win more than any team in the country besides Florida and they are not a big HR hitting team either.
That Florida team last year hit almost as bad as this Years LSU team

In 7 of 8 years we hit 51 or less hrs - this year 48. So no.

worse. They hit around .260 as a team on the season. O'Sullivan and Mainieri are very similar in how they assemble their teams. They rely on elite pitching and depth in the pitching staff and versatility of their players on defense. They know that if you have 2 elite starters, a few great arms in the pen, and a great defense to back them up, you can win in Omaha. And that's exactly what Florida did last year and what we have done. It's why Florida and LSU have been the class of college baseball the last decade. And that's also what Vandy, Oregon State, Virginia, etc have done. All these teams like Kentucky that hit a lot of home runs year after year never do shite in the postseason. Coastal Carolina is the only team since the move to TDA that won the CWS and were considered a power team. But that isn't how they won it all either.
