Furthermore, I’ve never understood paul’s decision making in managing pitchers

generally speaking, over the last 10 years, we have been among the most elite pitching staffs in the country. Our #1 starter has been drafted in the 1st round from 2009-2017. This will be the first year our #1 likely doesn't go in the 1st round. This year, we had our entire starting rotation leave for the draft or suffer a season ending injury. Then, our top 2 high school recruits (Labas and Storz) either missed basically the entire season (Sotrz) or huge chunks of it (Labas). Gilbert has been hurt. He went from having a sub 2 ERA throwing 94 to ballooning over 5 and maxing out at around 90 with not near the movement on any of his pitches. Then Hilliard goes out right before the NCAAT. When you lose that many top shelf pitchers and are limited to 27 scholarship players, more than half of which are not pitchers, then it's not really something that can just be coached around.

Nice of them to do something positive for the sport for a change. Hopefully CPM makes the most of it.
As my post above said, the NCAA still has to approve the additional paid coach.

If it passes the only thing that would change for LSU is that a coach would be paid by the university's athletic department rather than by TAF and the LSU baseball camps he works.

"Volunteer coach" at LSU just means he isn't paid by LSU but he is paid a decent stipend by TAF and Mainieri's baseball camps.

and where were any of those programs before those coaches arrived? Where was the LSU program before CPM?

Sacrifice a pitcher or two and get a first baseman. Find at least 1 power bat. Stocking up on versatile athletes isn’t terrible, but he needs to tweak it.

Saul Garza hit 23 HRs in Juco last year.

You think Maineri came into a good situation here?
He didn’t follow skip. Smoke was running this program into the ground

DVH has been at arkansas for 15 years.
Bianco has been at Ole Miss for 17 years.
Fox has been at UNC for 20 years.

The state of those programs before they got there is no longer an excuse.

In the shitter, missing out on the NCAA tournament and having a losing SEC record. The old Alex Box was half empty for SEC games and many of the baseball donors stopped giving.

Last year was our deepest run in those 8 years and it just happened to be the outlier in which we saw an uptick in hrs - 69.

I’m not saying hrs = wins I’m just saying PM has power way too low on his priorities and it’s become a detriment. Especially with how fragile pitchers have become.

correlation =/= causation. We made that deep run in Omaha due to masterful pitching performances to get us through the losers bracket. After the loss to Oregon State in our second game, we allowed 6 runs over the next 3 games. In the 2 wins against Oregon State to advance, they managed 2 runs and 5 hits combined.

Kevin O’Sullivan

I think if Sully and PM switched jobs, they would also switch results.

No way O’Sullivan could have the level of success at LSU that he now enjoys at UF. The state of Florida is the hottest recruiting bed for elite players in the nation, and it’s not close. There’s a ball field everywhere you turn, and they all take it seriously from little league up. It’s in their culture.

Disagree. Florida over the years before O’Sullivan was very hit or miss. They also have shite facilities.

O’Sullivan took them to another level starting around 2010.

I wouldn't trade him away either, but I am scratching my head wondering why Florida keeps reloading with all these big league type pitchers. shite they've got like 4 aces at a time throwing 95+. I'm not writing this to badmouth our program. I'm simply wondering how in the hell they get all those thoroughbreds. Must be slipping some cash under the table. I despise the Florida Gators, and I'm hoping them bastards have a downturn coming their way, particularly with regards to recruiting.

Well then we've got to steal some of them guys away from Florida! They are bringing in too many bigtime pitchers at a time. LSU Baseball must put a stop to it in recruiting.

I agree I think if you switch coaches with UF that the results are around the same for both programs.

They are both great coaches/recruiters. Sullivan may have equal or better success here and CPM would have equal success there as they have had.

Florida may not make the super regionals either.

Losing now to Florida Atlantic.
