Yeah, Robert Lane tried to pull that on Saban because Jamarcus was in his class. Saban told him to pound sand. Went to Ole Miss and wound up as a tight end.

I don’t even think he lied. I think he wanted to be a Tiger. When I was his age, I was still trying to get laid, excel at NCAA ‘04, and busy working after school. I can only imagine what would happen if someone offered me 12 mil. Then you factor in the pressure from your family, friends, and anybody who wants to associate with you. Absolutely none of us can put ourselves in that position.

This seems like your signal to never care again about any of these people until they’ve demonstrated a care for LSU.

Oh no.
Poor kid. That's a really shitty situation for a 21 year old to be in. Can't imagine thinking my kid was going to be my meal ticket.

I'd be willing to bet the "$10M, $12M", etc numbers thrown out there are a bit of a misnomer. That's probably a commitment of $10M to $12M over the course of 3-4 years. Not a lump sum fee. Almost all of these NIL contracts are VERY short in duration. 3 months, 6 months, a year (at most). The reason is they are not "employment" contracts, because they can't be. The contracts can't expressly be contingent upon a player being at a certain school. That means contractually there is very little, if anything, that could prevent Underwood, or any other player, from taking the money then transferring out the next season. If you are signing a contract for $10M thinking that binds a guy to your school for 3-4 years that is a recipe for being burned.
However, if Michigan booster did agree to pay $10M up front money to Underwood then I say, "good for you buddy!" That's life changing money for a kid and family. The reality is NIL is an unfettered arms race. If you start committing tons of money to several players eventually you run out of other people's money. Particularly if those guys take the money and run after a year or so.

I think this is the case.
I always say what you do? What if he was a LA kid and lived in NOLA, roughly 45 min from LSU? Who wouldn't want to stay close to home and play for the school you grew up watching?
And get paid life changing money to do so!?!
These kids don't have to wait until the Pro's to make that money anymore.

michigan is in the same spot as us.
they sucj
they’re desperate for a spark
they have more money and the embarrassment of a QB an hour away leaving when they have NO ONE is huge

For sure, it’s not guaranteed and not up front, but it’s still double.

It probably wasn't about the money...until it was.
We all have a price. I hate to say it, but as much as I love LSU, my price would have been lower. You also have to imagine that friends/family were already in his ear about going to Michigan. For him, Michigan was already the path of least resistance and they also sent a Brinks truck to his house.

Hopefully the football gods frown on this garbage, Bryce never gets to play for whatever reason or ends up ineffective, Michigan never wins shite, and they still have to pay him all that money.

unless Michigan has an incredible (better than what Saban had at Bama) support system built to keep everything on the rails, it's going to be very difficult. And their current coach doesn't have that type of handle on
My same thoughts when we had Orgeron as coach, but bringing in an elite QB prospect propelled us into a championship. Having the right playmaker can make all the difference.
An NFL coach once told me, "the one thing that all great teams have in common are great players, the same can't be said about coaches."

Maybe it’s because of how I was raised, but I hate the mindset of “I want to retire my parent(s)”. You aren’t creating generational wealth in these NIL deals or rookie contracts. It will inevitably be squandered and the family will be looking for a re-up.
