People don't drink as much as they used to, which limits the amount of people going out.

I wouldn’t care if every restaurant went out of business save hotel ones.
Better and less expensive to cook at home. Course that would require effort so that’s not gonna happen with people today.

I was reading an article yesterday about the record number of restaurants closing in New Orleans lately - some of which have been in business for years. The message was, if there's a restaurant you like, patronize them!

I seriously think fast food is deader than disco. Notable exceptions like Chick Fil A and Whataburger not withstanding, fast food has lost everything that made it viable to begin, fast and cheap and all that is left is the thing that made it almost untenable all along and that is shitty food.
The troubles with once venerated mid tier national chains like Outback and Olive Garden are well chronicled....many of these types won't be in business in 5 years.
Restaurant failures were already among the most common forms of business failures, if not the most common failures, before COVID. I think that was the final straw - I seriously doubt that outside of true fine dining, a few very well managed fast food chains and some regional chains and local mom and pops the restaurant industry is indeed doomed.

I think fast food is exploding. In the south at least. It's fast, convenient, and still cheaper than restaurant food. Even cooking at home has gotten expensive, unless you have a plan and buy on sale items.

I think the quick carryout tier of Chipotle, Qdoba, Panera, and 95 different sub shops is taking a large bite out of the family chains.

I always assume the Mexican restaurants are family affairs and thus have lower labor costs. Also, I believe that around here they have deals with the farm workers to basically feed them every day at much cheaper rates, which probably helps to keep the restaurant going.

I know that I just ate at a Chinese buffet for the last time. $13.99 for lunch in the middle of the week, not including drink or tip. Reduced and shitty selection on top of that.

People aren’t healthier, people are eating more fast food and less local restaurants. Faster and people think it’s cheaper food but it’s not when you look at the quality of food.

I eat out for almost every meal which is a huge waste of money but I enjoy it very much.
