How did Pyburn get cut again?

The guy had 4 sacks in 2 games, right? How does that not play?

NFL doesn’t care about preseason games. Practice and joint practices are far more important.

The Bucs said they have too many edge/olb rushers or something returning that they have under contract. I assume there was more that went into it meaning who it was against and how they need to build their roster. You might argue then why did they have him to begin with. Well in case maybe someone got injured or he really went off. I'm not sure, but the main takeaway is that they were kind of already set.

Coaches are stupid people, evaluating talent is really hard. They get it wrong all the time, and they’ll tell you that if you ask em.

Preseason stats mean dick.
Most teams are playing their reserves and vanilla schemes. He obviously wasn’t performing up to par in practice and camp.

He could barely muster a tackle for us last year so IDK how he’s getting sacks in preseason.

He really didn't have much of a chance to make the team to begin with. Practice squad, maybe but he was most likely a camp body.

Yea, I wasn’t very impressed with Pyburn last year. I’ll be excited if Harris and Wright come, but I’m pretty meh on Pyburn. He will be much needed depth though I guess.

They had 6 edge Rushers under contract. They drafted Rueben Bain in first round. It was numbers game. They needed STs help.

I didn't watch any Bucs games, but I did note Pyburn was listed at LB. I think he has zero NFL ability to cover, he was purely an end/edge rusher for us. I can't see him sticking with a back or TE in coverage at all.
If anything, maybe those sacks were "manufactured"; meaning Pyburn did show good pash rush instincts at LSU, he just could never finish when you knew he was coming. 2 sacks on the year, remember? But you put him into spots against a vanilla scheme vs other bubble players, he can look good. Maybe good enough that someone might trade a draft pick, or backup safety etc. But that didn't happen, either.
So I guess nobody thought he was the next Trey Hendrickson.

There are also financial considerations sometimes. There may have been a player they kept that Pyburn was as good or slightly better than who was given a significant signing bonus, so that dude will have a longer leash than a UDFA.

Production doesn't mean anything. Obviously it earns them more of a look but thats such a small part in the grand scheme of things. Production in actual games obviously is different with competition levels and play calls etc. But the process through practice and joint practices and preseason games are lumped together with the preseason games carrying the smallest weight.
Similar to the spring games of old in College Football. The practices carried a lot more weight than just that one spring game the fans got to watch.
