It’s called lowered expectations. Starting with Saban and through coach O even we have achieved a level of high talent overall for this roster . It’s taking some of you a little longer to catch on that this has changed with Kelly , but before you say this is a 8 year rebuild … meh 38 scholarships but look at our talent overall on defense , secondary , DT , depth etc and tell me we are on the same level talent wise as previous regimes . But think what you want , we are getting top talent I guess . 2027 will be our year !

Reading thru this thread, you would think that BK & LSU have been historically bad over his first two years at the helm. Let me remind you that in 2022, Coach Kelly’s first year, LSU was decimated by the demise of the Ed Orgeron regime. Hate Coach O or love him, but no one can deny that the program had fallen off a very steep cliff and was on life support.
In 2022, LSU went 10-4, won the SEC West and finished 16th in the final AP Poll. In his second year, he guided LSU to a 10-3 record and finished 12th in the AP. He continues to recruit at an elite level and has brought in incredible talent thru the portal as well. If you aren’t happy with CBK and the job he’s done so far, then you are completely unreasonable or just a troll. The future is bright, and I’m here for it.

The “inherited a team with 37 scholarship players” is such a fallacy
Posted on 10/1/24 at 9:55 pm to SwampyWaters
And yet none of this has resulted in LSU coming ready to play consistently, especially in game 1.
How much does this matter if you can’t field a defense and without a Heisman winner last year we would’ve gone 6-6
This is just as much as a negative as it is a positive.

I mean it's year 3 and our defense lacks talent in a large way
He definitely missed on DB’s in the portal the last two years. Unfortunately he also missed with House which at this point, seems to have been most of the issue. His recruited classes have been solid if not spectacular, but by most accounts, the ‘25 class projects to be our best in 10 yrs.

The transfer linemen are playing better and are yet to be tested. We know what we have with the defensive backs already and it is not good. This weak link has and will create problems in keeping our opponents from scoring at near will going forward. It’s also likely what keeps us out of the playoff without significant improvement. The offense is as good as anyone in the SEC but not prolific enough to answer our opponents like we did last year I sincerely hope coach Baker and Raymond can coach up these dbs over the next week or two.. I’m afraid that it’s not scheme with the dbs but talent level.

Wait you mean to say Kelly knows what he’s doing? Wow I would’ve never guessed.

Our safety room is in need of immediate talent.
He mised on Gilbert but let's not exclude Alexander. I think Johnson is still hurt so let's not rule him out either. But by all means, focus on the negative. It's the Rant way....

We have 4* safeties on the roster right now. Why aren't they playing and developing?
We hear about Kylin Jackson being a stud and rarely see him.

Counting on the portal for talent is a huge risk....much better to recruit and develop. QBs are the exception.

Seems like receiver position has worked out well from the portal.

It's been debunked repeatedly. *38* players available for a meaningless bowl game following a head coach's departure doesn't mean the program only had 38 players on the roster and you know that.
As seen with nearly every program that fires their head coach, a lot of guys jump in the portal until they see who the new coach is. In this case O was fired in October and the vultures from other teams had over a month to pick through our roster.

agreed, that and DL!
Defense needs some talent and for whatever reason Kelly needs these true freshman playing!

No, he’s been great , but my point is overall as a whole he’s getting UL and southeastern transfers etc and not targeting top players in the portal .

Less than a third of our incoming transfers have come from G5 or FCS programs. Over two thirds have come from P5 programs.

Except we won 10 games in his first and second seasons here?
Some of you are pretty obnoxious. This was not a "Rebuild" job by any shape of the imagination. Did we have some holes? Sure, but we and anyone are also able to plug holes with a thing called the portal and Kelly did that really well in some areas (QB) and not so much in others (DB).
In the end, Kelly has done a "decent" B grade job with the portal. I think his hands were fairly tied early on here in terms of landing some top players due to NIL handcuffs we had, but that seems to not be the case as much moving forward. We have a top 2025 class and we all know these guys are getting promised some pretty nice $$$ now.
He should have a good amount of money to go after guys like Walter Nolen in the portal this next go around so we aren't settling for DII transfers and Wisconsin rotational guys. We have addressed some needs through high school recruiting, but a lot of times those will take time and many dont pan out, so there's usually a waiting game there.

The class of '22 recruiting was essentially done when he came on board.
And included Harold Perkins, Will Campbell, Emery Jones, etc. So who gets the credit for bringing them on board?

His first 2 recruiting classes are freshmen and sophomores now
If your program depends on upperclassmen to succeed you're always going to be behind everyone else in modern college football. I don't have the numbers, but I would say for high profile recruits the chances of them sitting or playing second fiddle for 2 full years is very low. They either play or they transfer.
