You do realize 9 regular season wins is still a pretty good season right? It's nothing close to "complete rebuild" "4-year rebuild" status.
The biggest issue we had was last year the defense was utter trash with a trash coaching staff on that side of the ball despite us having one of the best offenses in the entire country. Would the defense had been elite had we had better coaches? No, but it could have been a playoff contender for sure with better coaching and our offense could make a game against anyone. Kelly knows that fired the entire side of the ball's coaches as a result.

Coach Kelly knows what he's doing.

The players are doing well on the Dline, but I think that might have as much or more to do with the two best DL coaches in the country that Kelly brought in.

I do. I also realize we had an NFL QB last year, who is currently setting records in the NFL, and with an average to good QB (Nuss is only a good QB, not a great QB) as opposed to an NFL QB, we would’ve been 5-7 or 6-6 last year. We will likely never have a JD again, most years we can only hope for a good QB. Not a knock on Nuss, he just isn’t a world beater like JD. No one is.
We may go 7-5 this year. Ole Miss and Bama are almost sure losses, A&M and Arkansas will both play us rough. We are not a good team this year.
The way we looked against USCe, Florida isn’t even a guaranteed win. We flat out suck in a lot of ways.

All we had to do was hold a goddamn 49-40 lead over Ole Miss in the 4th quarter

I thought this after UCLA then again, Ole Miss got bullied in the trenches against Kentucky and might have 2 losses when they come to BR if they don't beat South Carolina on the road. The Ole Miss game will be an inflection point for us. We win, we set ourselves nicely to go 10-2 or 9-3 to finish, we lose, we could stare 7-5 right in the face (I'm more for 8-4 if that happens realistically).

We had JD in 2022 who wasnt near as good and we still went to the SEC title game, with a win over Bama. The defense was a bit better, but goes to show, pair that 2022 defense with the 2023 offense and its a playoff type team. The coaching on the 2023 defense was just absolutely atrocious and we didnt even have a DL coach all season basically. Point being, neither of the last 2 teams scream "rebuild" here. We werent THAT far off from being a playoff contention team had basically a few more things gone right for us. Kelly understood the issue from last year and evaporated that side of the ball's coaches as a result. It literally held us back from reaching the top again potentially.

I never understood people acting like every single game is equal. South Carolina beat Kentucky 31-6 at their place, absolutely embarrassed them. Kentucky then went on to nearly beat UGA and DID win @ Ole Miss. Did you see that coming after getting blown out by USCe? My guess is you didnt predict that...it's almost like you just gotta just play the games and see the outcomes because this is CFB and it can get pretty wild. Like a Notre Dame losing at home to Northern Illinois literally right after beating Texas A&M on the road the previous week.

247 Scholarship Breakdown
Throw rocks at the me misstating the old scholarship limit all you want. LSU had 77 initial counter scholarship players in 2022. Even with elevated walk-ons we were only at 83. You were wrong and continue to be wrong that we had a full roster in 22. And we all know that 77 number held plenty of dead weight that was gone the next year. Guys who never played and never would have here.
This article also points out that there were only 52 scholarship players remaining from the O regime. Out of that, there were around 45 who were good enough to be on an SEC roster, just like I said before. But hold onto those 6 being some massive difference from the 39 that people remember from the bowl game.
Keep on trying hard to prop up your lord and master for his two year exit tour.

Your are getting downvoted, but our defense is very weak in the secondary, which is hard to believe at LSU, and we lack depth overall on defense. This is what will keep us out of the playoffs. People are on here gushing over him in the portal, but as you said, our defense lacks talent and it is YEAR 3. I could see the first year, and potentially the second year, but not the third year. We are fighting to be a top 60 defense, and people are happy.
Hell, there was barely any players.
quote:So what you're saying is:
our defense lacks talent and it is YEAR 3
The fifth year recruits are not his.
The fourth year recruits are not his.
The third year recruits are not his.
His recruiting has been lights out.
2023 - #5
2023 - #4
2025 - #2
The talent on the field is improving year over year.
The results will come with the vastly improved staff.

I wish people would stop with this "year 3" stupidity. Kelly inherited a completely empty cupboard.
Kelly is who started the year 3 talk back in July of 2023...he brought it all upon himself!

We get it bro. You’re 187-0 on CFB25 and have no clue why this is so hard for Coach Kelly
