Have to respect the great job Kelly is doing in the transfer portal

Although there will always be misses, it's hard to argue with the transfers Kelly has landed since arriving and the impact those players are making at LSU. All four of our top receivers are transfers in Daniels, Anderson, Lacey and Thomas, as well as OL Frazier.
On the other side of the ball, Swinson is playing lights out and Paez has also done a decent job solidifying the middle. I think with time that Washington will also be a solid contributor on the DL. In the secondary, Alexander, Gilbert and Burns have improved from last year, although there is still a lot of room for improvement. I also believe Ohio State transfer JK Johnson will also prove to be a solid pickup.
IMO, if there's are two areas Kelly really needs to address, it would be at LB and safety. It's still a mystery to me how Sage Ryan is still a starter and we haven't had an SEC LB since Devin White left a few years ago. You got to have a great defense to win championships and those two areas need a lot of attention.
Overall, I would have to give Kelly a solid B for using the portal to improve the team, because we all know when he took over, the program was in complete disarray and in need of a major makeover.
I firmly believe we might make the playoffs this year, which is a miracle when you think about where the program was just a few years ago.

Nah man we should’ve spent millions like ole miss so we could lose to Kentucky

Yea, great job with all of the DT’s. That’s something will be forced to address this year as well now.

I mean it's year 3 and our defense lacks talent in a large way

My only complaint is that CB and especially safety needed to be addressed better. Our safety room is in need of immediate talent.

The LSU secondary is still as weak as I’ve seen it, at least in the last 20 years.

I wish people would stop with this "year 3" stupidity. Kelly inherited a completely empty cupboard. The class of '22 recruiting was essentially done when he came on board. His first 2 recruiting classes are freshmen and sophomores now, and given where he was starting from.the sophomore class isn't chock full of talent at all positions. This was always a 4 year rebuild at minimum.

The greatest job Kelley is doing with the portal is not over Investing in the portal. He said it on day one during his. Press conference. He will not build this program through the portal. OLE MISS JUST BLEW A TON OF MONEY IN THE PORTAL IN ORDER TO LOSE TO KENTUCKY. THEY ARE DONE FOR THE NEXT FOUR YEARS. LANE WILL LEAVE AFTER THIS YEAR SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY BLEW THEIR WAD THIS YEAR ON THE PORTAL BETTING ON DART SENIOR YEAR. YOU MAY HAVE SHORT TERM SUCCESS IN THE PORTAL, BUT IT IS A TRUE BUDGET. BUSTER IF YOU DO NOT MANAGE IT WELL.

Your are getting downvoted, but our defense is very weak in the secondary, which is hard to believe at LSU, and we lack depth overall on defense. This is what will keep us out of the playoffs. People are on here gushing over him in the portal, but as you said, our defense lacks talent and it is YEAR 3. I could see the first year, and potentially the second year, but not the third year. We are fighting to be a top 60 defense, and people are happy.

not gonna help us this year though, and next year we lose all the wrs and OL and Nuss most likely.

none of this is fact...none of it. Also, our lack of talent on D and depth on D will likely keep us out of the playoffs. We didn't need a whole team in the portal, we just needed a key few DB's and maybe a DL at least for depth.

Kelly said it, not us. Holding the 100 million dollar man to his word

This is ridiculous,

He’s gotten about 3 impact players in Daniels, Brooks, and Lacy . The rest have been decent/average at best . It seems like he sets his sights too low in the talent he goes after in the portal compared to other big name schools .

Swinson is average?
Posted on 10/1/24 at 7:09 pm to sunnydaze
No, he’s been great , but my point is overall as a whole he’s getting UL and southeastern transfers etc and not targeting top players in the portal .

Aaron Anderson has been average this year?
Anderson - Bama
Swinson - Oregon
Outside of Lacy, garner and zy who did he get from southeastern and ULL level?
Suggs from grand valley st but that’s about it
We got 2 corners from a blue blood in Ohio st they just aren’t good

Counting on the portal for talent is a huge risk....much better to recruit and develop. QBs are the exception.
