I'm fading away from "college" football. Still haven't turned away completely, but it's coming. I recognize the process of disenchantment from when I stopped watching pro sports.

Less but it's hard for me to say for sure if it's because of the portal/NIL or not. I'm sure that's part of it. It's also the price factor where I used to go to every home game and a lot of away games and I don't anymore. I gave up my season tickets years ago and I just don't feel like spending the money it takes to travel anymore.
But I have lost interest in pro football as well. I used to watch every saints game and I was in 3 fantasy leagues. Now, I'm in 1 league and I probably watch half of the saints games. I think I'm just older now and my priorities are different. Football used to be a pretty big priority in my life and it's just not anymore with kids and career taking more time than in the past.

Sadly, my interest is much lower in CFB and all sports in general. Some of it is the game changing. But the part I’m most surprised about is not feeling driven to get my two boys into it. I think a lot of that is simply because of changes in the education landscape and not wanting to blindly push them toward college. LSU has sadly been pretty bad about diluting its own brand from an educational standpoint, and now costs enough that the cost/benefit analysis must be considered by intelligent people.
Sports in general are also in a much different spot. Youth sports can get carried away if you aren’t careful. I had to explain to my wife that our 7y/o still has a chance to play competitively if he doesn’t join travel ball this year
And the fact that most of his fiends migrating in that direction strengthens that opinion, because some of them clearly have no future in sports beyond 12 y/o (if the team is made up with kids full of moms with FOMO, that isn’t a recipe for a highly competitive team).
On a related note, kids are just not playing a lot of tackle football these days. I don’t necessarily disagree with tackle being incorporated later, but it’s still pretty gay and will affect the quality of future football at a more competitive level.

I will always be a Tiger fan and a College Football fan but I find it far more difficult to get excited about players. I used to know every player, where they were from, recruiting ranking, etc. Now that I don't pay attention to the recruiting I used to I don't know nearly as much. Which stinks but people transfer too frequently now. College Baseball is the only recruiting I keep up with.

If I'm being totally honest, not really. I like trolling diehards about NIL because it bugs them so much, but it doesn't really bother me. I'm not a diehard fan and enjoy college football more because of the season of the year it brings. On average I watch maybe one or two full LSU games a year and just watch bits and pieces of the other ones.

I'll still read about it a lot, watch it on Saturdays, but I'm less likely to let a loss ruin my weekend these days
I have a much bigger issue with the number of transfers than I do NIL though. The days of recruiting high school kids, developing them, then seeing that development their junior year are gone and that's a shame. I don't think many of these kids give a shite about the program they play for.

probably less but the NIL/portal era also coincided with the dark days of Ed and the BK era of apathy so tough to really judge if its due to NIL

After reading all the replies of Tiger fans it seems the majority do not like the way college football is headed. LSU has performed really well with NIL transfers and now coaching. Imagine how badly you would hate the current state of college football if you were an ole miss or clemson or any other school that could not compete with NIL

I just started going to school at LSU last year so I still enjoy it. Couldn't get into college much before that, just couldn't form a connection to a school enough to care- but now that I go to LSU I do enjoy it. Previously just huge on the NFL.
Watched LSU a bit in the past, but could never just "pick my team" and get into it as much as I would if I had a connection to a school like I do now, if that makes sense.

I always find this to be hilarious.
People talk about “how many championships Saban would’ve won at LSU.” But at a more storied football school that historically had the greatest coach ever, players came because they were paid - not because Saban surpassed the Bear because he is now the greatest college football coach ever. All of the top schools have always paid players.

My decline in interest started with Leftist Woodward and the bowing down to BLM and the injection of politics.
I can deal with NIL, its the portal that has ruined college sports. If a coach cannot manage a roster, they cannot manage a program. NIL is manageable, the portal is not.

Those players would have been paid no matter where they ended up. Saban was a big factor too.
