As a lifelong fan, I can’t make myself lose interest even though it seems like I should. We are definitely being played by the system. I just have to pretend harder.

It's really hard to say, but the fact that Indiana (a perennial college football doormat) won the National Championship last year has made things more interesting.

the only aspect i'm not nearly as invested in is recruiting, specifically HS recruiting....
the recruiting board was what brought me to this site, and i'll always somewhat follow LSU recruiting, but it's hard to get as excited about guys who likely won't play their entire careers here, nor does their verbal "commitment" mean anything anymore....

My passion for LSU football only intensified.

Less. I used to pay attention to recruiting and all off season news. Now i just wait for kickoff around labor day and ignore all the recruiting and portal BS

I’m a lifelong SEC/LSU football fan and can say that it’s just not the same. NIL and the expansion has really damaged the conference and college football as a whole. I fear that it will only get worse as this grows into a semi-professional gambling driven sports league.

It's definitely died down but some of it may have been Brian Kelly. Say what you want about Les but they were the most fun years I've had as a football fan

People act like the sport has really changed because of that. NIL has always been a thing it’s just public now.

I don’t see why anyone would care that the players are actually making money now. The constant transfers is annoying though.

Probably a little less. Just knowing that lots of the guys are playing as much for the money as they are for the school.

Less. Way way less. I may keep tabs on it to be able to discuss it with people if brought up, but I haven't watched a full game in many many years.
My Saturdays in the fall were engulfed with CFB. In my late 20s I was easily spending $15k+/year on travel/tickets/etc. Not an NFL guy because I put it all into cfb Saturdays. One of sisters had a fall wedding and she called me to discuss my teams schedule to help pick the date.
I haven't spent a dime on CFB, and found other things to do on Saturdays.
Not just nil, but BLM response started it. Glad it did cause it as it helped start the process that would have occurred with the current nil/portal situation.

I think the NIL/Portal era absolutely sucks. The main reason I stopped watching college basketball was the ‘one and done’ era and always having to learn a whole new team every year. Now college football is at that.
I still have the same interest as I did though. I will never not love college football. It’s is, by far, the greatest sport there is. More passion and excitement than all other sports combined. I wish we didn’t have what we now have, but I still love it and follow it daily.
