Like most folks on here, I still can't wait for the season to start, and I really want LSU to do well. I love when they're winning.
But it's absolutely not the same. Prime LSU was knowing everyone on the roster, being excited for that hot young freshman to make his debut, or the senior to come into his own.
Prime college football was the conferences and bowls of the early 80's. The Big 10 had 10 teams
, played in the Rose Bowl against the Pac 10. The SWC played for the Cotton Bowl. The SEC played for the Sugar. The Big 8 played in the Orange.
You had the Eastern independents (Penn State, Pitt, West Virginia, Boston College, Syracuse etc) that by all rights should have been a conference, and pushed a team to the big New Year's Day bowls.
The ACC and the Southern independents (Miami, Fla State, Southern Miss, East Carolina) were another group where someone should emerge.
Nobody cared about rankings, they cared about the bowl matchup. If you rolled through and won the Sugar, that was great and it didn't matter too much that the AP might like Notre Dame better than you; you "knew" you'd beat their arse if it were played.
There were multiple fanbases ecstatic at the end of the season because they finished with a bowl win.
Now, I have trouble keeping up with rosters, not sure which team will make a run, and teams can win 2-3 games in the playoffs and still be disappointed.

This. At the end of the day we will have a team, and I will root for LSU because I love my Alma mater. And because we are LSU we will always have the capability to field a NC capable team.

I've learned that there's nothing to be excited about. It's professional football now and I'm cheering for the laundry because they players are playing for the highest bidder.
If they could change teams during the game for a pay raise, they would do it.

Just look at the tailgating and games. Majority fans interest level has dropped especially with recruiting. I use to live and breath college football until 2020 and now I’ll watch but I wouldn’t be upset if the whole league shut down tomorrow now.

Way less passion for both. Tailgates still bring me as much or more joy.

LSU FOOTBALL: No change in interest because of NIL.
it is what it is.
Everybody is playing by the same rules.
Going to see LSU Football in person in Tiger Stadium has totally changed FOR ME because of all the pre-recorded Devil-Demon musical garbage being spewed out into the Coliseum and I refuse to be part of it in person any longer; just refuse to participate.
Most GBFTL Alums, current GBFTL members, LSU Alums and LSU fans feel the same way.
It's insulting to us all and it nullifies the strong tradition of LSU fans making a lot of noise with their mouths.
It's COLLEGE FOOTBALL, not the frickin NFL. Every football playing College/University has a Marching Band to provide musical entertainment for those in attendence. Pre-Recorded
noise is not needed and not desired.

Interested less in college football. College football used to be a large part of my life, now it’s basically just another pro league or even worse because of no contracts and no salary caps resulting in very little team loyalty.

I have not lost interest. I have always been into player development, the strategy of the game, and execution throughout the game by coaches and players.
I’ve never been the kind of fan who gives up on the team when they are losing. I watch just as intently when the scrubs are in and the odds of winning are slim to none.
The college game has always been about pulling for short timers.
When Jack Bech left after 2 years, I still pulled for the kid. When Joe Burrow and Jayden Daniels came to play for only 2 years, I pulled for them as much as anyone.
But I admit it’s tougher to pull for 1 year players.

My interest has never really gone down but the excitement I used to get is not there like it used . NIL killed recruiting for me, which I was locked in on. BK killed my excitement of the program because of how stagnant and just boring he made LSU football. But it’s getting there. The program feels different with Lane. Hope once September rolls around that shows up on the field!

Players have been getting paid since waaaay before NIL, I still enjoy College Football and if a Head Coach can make $13,000,000 a year, players should be paid.

It’s changed but idk if it’s better or worse. The idea of how to develop and protect a roster has become fascinating to me, so has the process to make sure you have the right guys on board plus how do you pay for it all. I used to be into the emotional aspect of being a college football fan but now I’m way more interested in the logistics and operations of who can make it work and who can’t

The NIL part of it doesn't bother me.
My interest has waned as the playoffs keep expanding. My favorite thing about college football in the BCS era was how every game was huge because of the implication that a loss could severely hurt you title chances, or even kill them altogether.
Now we have 3-loss teams making it into the playoff.
The regular season means less and that sucks.
