The SEC Championship produces usually 2 of the best teams anyhow, not going to do away with that game.

You ever heard of Cinderella? Hell, just a couple months ago, St. Peter's made a run in March Madness. Loyola-Chicago made the Final Four a few years ago as an 11-seed. Tampa Bay won the Super Bowl two years ago as a wild card. And Burrow's Bengals made the Super Bowl this year as a wild card.
Everyone of those examples are played in leagues with much much more parity than has ever existed in College football.
All you’re accomplishing by adding more is further diluting the regular season for the fairy tale dream of March madness type tournament that will never happen

I have spent more hours than I should thinking about this over the last few years. I think 8 is the right thing to do. Power 5 winners auto qualify. Highest rated Go5 champ. Two at-large. First round on college campuses of top 4 seeds.
What is more than likely to happen is a 12 team playoff, but a 12 team playoff will almost always result in a rematch from earlier in the season. I personally don't care to see rematches, but that's just me. Also, I think it would be overly SEC; HOWEVER, if a 12 team playoff increases LSU's chance of a championship each year I'm for it.

All power five champions get automatic invites. Three wild cards based on whatever formula, ranking, BCS, CFB playoff ranking they want to come up with to give 8.
Problem is by the time January comes around it’s obvious who the best teams are… Usually the top couple are very obvious and it’s not worth watching a bunch of bad football to get there…They don’t have eight “great teams “ever… This isn’t the parity of the NFL

Have you ever seen a 12th ranked team or hell even an 8th ranked team that made you think “man they could win it all if only they had the chance”?
I damn sure haven’t
Those teams still won’t win it.
But what it will do is make those LSU-Bama, Ohio State-Michigan, Florida-Georgia games in the regular season absolutely meaningless. College Football is already fast becoming something none of us recognize as college football. Can we please stop fricking with the sanctity of the regular season on top of it?

Break off the premier 30-40 teams or so. Have them play only each other in games that count. Make the fluff in state games pre season exhibition games.
Make a 8-12 team playoff
I mean if you want to repeat what is successful in every major sport that is how you do it. Not saying college football hasn't been successful but it seams to be the outlier in format among successful systems.

Because it’s stupid and there hasn’t been 8 deserving teams ever in the history of my lifetime.4 gets it right every single year and the regular season has meaning.Expanding the playoff does nothing but give Alabama and the Ohio States of the world a free trip every year regardless if they shite the bed in the regular season.

Expand it. Play the round of 16 on campus, and subsequent rounds can be the "bowls."
Every single person who spits on the idea will be excited once the games are actually played.

I'm against an expanded playoff. Hell I'm against a playoff in general. I always loved college football because of how valuable the regular season was. My preference is the plus 1 model. You have all your bowls as normal after conference championship, sec champ to sugar, pac 12 and big 10 to rose, acc to orange etc, THEN after all those games, you have #1 play #2 after the post bowl poll for the natty

The best team has been in the top 4. So I can see the argument for leaving it alone at 4 team CFP.
The other argument is that, even if it's a low probability another "Cinderella " will win it, those other teams have no chance to even get there. Especially from smaller conferences. So what are those teams playing for? Oh, a bowl game of course. The problem is the conference tie-ins are causing situations in which a small conference team goes 11-1 and gets put in the Wahoo Bowl against some 7-5 record team.
I'm fine leaving it at 4 teams. Might be nice to go with 8 to have a couple at large bid opportunities. I want to maintain the regular season importance which makes college football so great all year. If it's left as is the bowl matching needs to improve.

That '01 LSU team started slow out of the gates, but by the end of the season could have beaten anybody in America. I would have loved to see them in a playoff.
To say that there will only be no more than four contending teams every single year forever is shortsighted. That's merely the current circumstances. The dynamics of almost any sport always change over time.

You shite the bed during season and don’t even win your division in your own conference you don’t deserve to be a Cinderella and nobody should have to beat you 2-3 times to prove they are better than you in college.College is fine stop trying to turn it into the NFL the NCAA is already trying their best to do it anyway

It being an outlier is part of the reason it’s been successful.
It being different is what makes it special.
College football is home to the greatest regular season in sports. Every game is a playoff. Why would I want to sacrifice that just so a 3 loss Michigan state or whoever can earn the right to be thrashed by Ohio State again?
Protect what made college football special in the first place instead of trying to make it like “every other sport”.
Because if you keep trying to turn it into every other sport one day that’s exactly what’s going to happen.

We have only had a 4 team playoff for how many years in D-1? Do upsets happen in the NFL? All other levels of football and any other sport?
Absolutely meaningless is total BS. More games will actually be meaningful because… you are playing for a high seed, home field advantage (is there a sport with more importance for home field than cfb), and making the playoff.
What fans and players care about making a bowl game when over half the teams make one? 16 team playoff and no bowls and NCAA fb would be way more exciting! Potential matchups like Mich/LSU on campus in December…yeh I want that over a neutral site meaningless bowl game.

SEC (when we get to 16 teams) needs to add a semifinal weekend before the conference championship. The other conferences can have their own playoffs. Whoever wins that can play the SEC champion for the National Championship.

6 teams.
Top 2 teams get a 1st round bye.

P5 Conference champs get automatic bids. The three highest ranked teams outside of conference champs get the last three spots. Boom, 8 team playoff with Conference championship games.

As far as it needs to go. 1 and 2 get a bye. 3/6 4/5 play. Then back to the top 4

I think you need to expand to keep more programs involved.
1) set up. I haven’t heard this suggested but 10 team could work, similar to nba: 7-10 play play in games.
5 conference champions, top group of five, 4 at large. Seeding is based on BCS or whatever computer bs
2) we need to increase the parity. My suggestion is to reduce scholarship limit from 85 to 77. 2 less scholarships per cycle. I say this as a cfb fan vs LSU fan, bc im not sure if this one would definitely help LSU.
