Make the 1-8 games the big bowl games: sugar, rose, peach, fiesta

We have only had a 4 team playoff for how many years in D-1? Do upsets happen in the NFL? All other levels of football and any other sport?

Stop trying to make college football like every other sport.

If it’s just like every other sport why would I watch it when I could watch them?

Sure that works in “every other sport” but college football has been doing just damn fine doing its own thing. It’s own thing being the most meaningful and suspenseful regular season in all of sports.

Take that away and what do we have left? A less talented NFL with less parity. Why would anyone want that?

I know the answer. We’ve seen it every year here lately with all these spring pro football leagues. No one wants that even if they think they do. They prove it by not watching it.

I feel like you have to expand it. It is only a matter of time before we encounter a five undefeated Power 5 conference champions (with the NIL as it is now). I’m for all Power-5 conference champions receiving an automatic bid, along with the highest rated team from the Group of 5. Then, two at large bids to the highest ranked teams. Or, whatever the equivalent becomes once the BIG-12 folds.

Keep it at 4. There is little to no parity in the sport with how lopsided recruiting is now. The 4 seed usually gets skull-dragged anyway, so what do you expect if the playoff expands? Yes, occasionally the 4 wins but it's happened twice in eight years. Also, I can't remember a year in which the best two teams in CFB did not play for a national championship since 2015.

Bingo-that's why I think SIX would be perfect. The regular season still keeps the drama, because you will claw like hell to get one of the two byes.

Also have all the games hosted by the higher seed until you play the collegiate "Super Bowl" at a predetermined site. How does Columbus, Ohio sound in December fellow LSU fans???

This would keep the sanctity of the regular season while also providing access for two more teams. I also think twelve could work, but you HAVE to keep byes in the equation to preserve the regular season drama.

4 out of 120+ teams have a shot to win a national title. This means most fanbases are out of the hunt by October...making it less exciting than it could be outside of 6-8 teams/fanbases.

Name one sport that has expanded playoffs and it has hurt the sport. March madness is pretty damn successful and the regular season is still extremely meaningful. College baseball hasn't suffered from expansion/format change. The regular season becoming less meaningful is just absurd...a team gets screwed over on a call or has a player suspended/hurt for a game and they could still have a shot for the playoff is how it should be. Saying D-1 cfb is unique b/c they don't have a playoff like every other sport makes no sense. Or were you one of those "purists" who didn't want the BCS?

12 conference champs
4 at large

that way......every game counts. in other words......if you lose to mcneese, you still have the opportunity to get in by winning your conference. just like baseball and basketball.

if alabama and ohio st get in, and beat every team, what's the issue? they won... they were the best team in that case

it's only meaningful to about 8 teams. The other 110 teams are playing for nothing more than pride and showing what they can do to get the NFL, and if they showed enough, then they quit playing.

Keep it at 4, but get rid of the “committee,” and bring back the BCS ranking format.

I have been saying for a while to go to 8 teams with all P5 conference champions and 3 at large selected by the committee.

There will be no changes that result in loss of money. That is the conference championships are here to stay.

Oh that’s easy.

College Football

We all clamored for a 4 team playoff and College Football has only gotten worse and more exclusive since it’s inception.

You’ve seen bowl games get diminished.

You’ve seen bowl game opt outs increase.

And it’s done nothing to allow more teams “a chance”.

But sure instead of admitting our mistake let’s double down and just make it bigger. That’ll surely fix it.

11 different programs won National Championships in 16 years under the BCS

In the 8 years of the college football playoff 5 different teams have won a national championship.

So tell me again what did we actually accomplish?

I’m over the SEC Championship Game. It has lost its lure ever since 2011.

6 team playoff
5 P5 conference championship game WINNERS + 1 at large

Maintains/increases value of conference championship game and can give at large to SEC CG loser or throw a non P5 a bone whenever there’s a worthy squad

BCS is a playoff compared to how CFB was prior to BCS...when rarely the #1 & #2 teams would meet in a bowl game.

Ever heard of the dynasty Saban built?

I guess you ignore the weekly release of the polls that basically include about 12 programs that are in the mix to make the playoff...you don't thinkj that generates excitement? I would say since playoff started cfb has never been more popular.

good it is stupid to have 70 teams make bowls and Maybe you are too young to realize that 40 years ago some top 25 teams were left out of bowls because there wasn't enough.

more programs making the playoffs should level the recruiting advantage some bc recruits will think they can go some where else and still make the playoff.

*Seems to work for all the other divisions of college football other than D1.

I have no idea how anyone could be against restructuring this odd system to create additional meaningful games.

I think we'd all be more inclined to watch us play as the 16th seed in the playoffs than us playing in lower tier bowls. It'd also eliminate all these "opt outs"

I love college football but have no desire to see #1 LSU, bamer, ohio st. etc play #8 or #12 Maryland
